Literacy
In Literacy, we have started out unit on Narratives. We have spent time learning about the different points of views we may see in different types of texts and have been using our Mentor Text ‘Wonder’ to explain why it is important to understand each character’s point of view. We have started to write our narratives using all the writing traits we have learnt about throughout the year. In the coming weeks, we will be planning another ‘writing day’ so we can compare our narratives from the start of the year to now and see all of the wonderful growth that has happened this year.
Integrated Studies
This term, our topic is Data and Decisions. We have been learning the consequences of financial decisions and how to think critically about our options. We are able to identify the difference between needs and wants, the types of resources we have and how to use them. Throughout the term, we will be developing and presenting a business plan based on a product or service we would like to offer other people. We are excited to see the ideas our students come up with.
Maths
We have been working extremely hard to learn all of the ‘Big Ideas’. Last week we finished learning about Big Ideas 12 and 13 ‘Mathematical rules can be used to assign members of one set to members of another set’, and ‘Rules of arithmetic and algebra can be used together with notions of equivalenced to transform equations and inequalities so solutions can be found.’ This week we have moved onto Big Idea 14 ‘Two and three dimensional objects with or without curved surfaces can be described, classified and analysed by their attributes.’ Everyone has been moving through their set tasks really quickly and it is amazing to see their understanding and growth throughout this unit!
Sports
Well done to our students who represented our school in the interschool golf competition, everyone had such an amazing time showing off their skills!
Good luck to our 5/6 students who are also off to compete in the Cricket competition against other schools today! We wish you the best of luck and know you will have a great time.
Over the past 2 weeks, 5/6A has prevailed in both games. Uno was a tight hustle, but Kaylee was victory from an elimination of everyone else in the cohort.
Last week we ventured back outside and played Basketball. It was a very good game with it being close all game, although 5/6A were able to convert a little bit better than 5/6B and got the win 26-8! Look for 5/6B to turn things around this week!
Reminders
If your child is at school before 8:30am please make sure they go straight to the office while waiting for the yard duty teacher. Our yard is unsupervised before this time.
