Sport & Extra Curricula

AFLW Talk By Malou.Davie and Paddy Rainy

We at St Mary's 5 White and 5 Blue, just had a couple amazing AFLW players come to our school and let us ask them questions. Mia, the back liner and Steph the ruck provided us some interesting insights into their lives on and off the field. These powerful players were both from Essendon Football Club.

The session began with them telling us an inspirational story about how they got into the AFLW and their experiences playing so far. Some of the questions we asked were along the lines of… them controlling their nerves, what do they eat before a game, how are different players going, their height, how their team is going this season compared to last and so much more!

It was great to hear from some professional female athletes about AFLW and the future of the sport for young girls as it becomes increasingly popular. We all got a photo and we  really enjoyed this and we are grateful  for what we got to learn about by Mr Mitchell. Overall, we loved the experience!

AFLW Visit

On the 17th of October 2024 Term 4, two AFLW players came to visit us. Stephaine Wales and Mia Busch, Stephaine plays ruck and Mia plays Half back for Essendon AFLW Club. When they walked up everyone was ecstatic (especially the Essendon supporters!).

The year 5 grade asked some very interesting questions. Such as, ‘What's your pre game snack?’ Stephaine answered “Pikelets” and Mia had a quick think and answered ‘spaghetti’ That was one of the many questions we asked during their visit. The other questions consisted of ‘do you know ____’ ‘Who was the hardest team you faced?’

Overall the questions were great! We are absolutely so grateful that they took time out of their own day to come and talk to us! We thank them for coming to our school! This will be a memory that will last forever!
