French

It has been a lovely start to Term 4 in French these past few weeks. I was very happy to see all the students again after being away on long service leave last term and to hear all about the learning they did in Term 3 with Miss Brown. Thank you to all the students at Moriac for welcoming Miss Brown, and for working hard on their cultural studies.

We are beginning lots of grammar work and vocabulary work this term in French, building on students' abilities to build sentences in French and to read and pronounce French words.

In grade Prep, we have been looking at some nursery rhymes about snails. Students practiced singing the song together and then made some snails to take home. Below are some photos of their beautiful snails.

In grades 1/2, students have been learning key vocabulary for the well known story of the Three Little Pigs. Below is a screen shot of the vocabulary they have been learning. Ask your child to pronounce the words for you, you will see that many consonants at the end of French words are silent. We have been looking at this and learning that French words may look similar to English words, but they are pronounced very differently.

In grades 3-6 students have begun looking at prepositions. They are designing a house and are writing phrases to describe their creations. This week we wrote sentences to describe a room, using prepositions to talk about the placement of furniture within the room. Students are enjoying the creative freedom around the design of their houses and rooms, and are also doing a great job following grammar rules and using formulaic language to create their own phrases. See below some wonderful work that was uploaded to Seesaw this week.

Students will be building their house at the end of the term, so please begin putting aside any materials you have that they could use for the creation of their houses.
