Year 5/6
It has been been a wonderful start to our final term together as a 5/6 cohort. The students have been amazing in getting straight into their learning and we look forward to completing their 2024 journey together.
English
In Reading, students have been analysing a graphic novel called 'Smile'. It is a memoir written by author and illustrator Raina Telgemeirer, who shares her experiences of going from primary to secondary school, a journey our grade 6 students will soon be undertaking.
In Writing, students are writing their own memoirs, sharing stories from their life, using expressive and descriptive language to engage their readers and spark their interests. The grade 6 memoirs will be used as part of their graduation celebration.
Maths
In Maths, students began the term studying angles, including the names and degrees of different angles, how to sue a protractor to measure angles and how to identify angels of triangles and quadrilaterals. Students have now begun a new until on location and transformation, looking at symmetry, rotating and reflecting shapes and finding co-ordinates on a grid or plane.
Humanities
In Humanities, students have begun their focus of Civics and Citizenship, discussing and researching the three levels of government in Australia (Federal, State and Local), the roles and responsibilities these different levels of government have and how they work together to help run the country. Students are currently writing a letter to their local council about community issues that concern them and what they would like to see changed.
