Head of Sport Report
We have had a fast and energetic start to the summer sports season, and it is hard to believe we are already heading into Round 3 this weekend! Thank you to all the players who have shown great commitment by consistently attending both training and games each week. Your dedication does not go unnoticed, and it’s fantastic to see you all upholding the honour of the school both on and off the court. Displaying outstanding sportsmanship and respect for one another, your coaches, and your opponents.
On another positive note, I have noticed a significant improvement in uniform since Week 1. It is great to see more of you proudly representing our school by wearing the proper BMGS gear. This not only fosters team spirit but also makes a good impression on the opposing school.
Keep up the hard work, and good luck with your games this weekend. Let’s make Round 3 another successful round for BMGS, both in terms of performance and sportsmanship!
Congratulations

Oliver and Lucas Rutherford recently competed in the NSW Mountain Bike Cross Country Championships held in Wagga. Both boys did well in a very competitive field of riders with Oliver unlucky to take the win in the U17s getting pipped at the post and Lucas finishing 9th in the U15s.
Oliver has also recently been selected as part of the 2024/25 Western Sydney Academy of Sport Cycling Program.

Basketball Reports
Girls Basketball - Round 1
Firsts
The girls lost by 17. They were down by over 20 for most of the game, but they managed to get it down to only 10 points in the 3rd quarter. Their passing let them down and just gave the other team too many scoring opportunities. But it is a good starting point for the rest of the season.
Open C
The Senior Girls C team played Chevalier in a competitive game. The girls played excellent defense but were unable to score consistently against the zone defense of Chevalier. The girls improved throughout the game and should expect strong results in future games.
Junior A
The Junior Girls A played Chevalier in their first game of the year.
They were able to move the ball quickly in offense but unfortunately made a low percentage of their shots. Neva and Elise had strong games.
Junior C
Game 1
The Junior C had a double header this weekend with the season opener against Chevalier College. The girls started slowly but as they tried to implement what they had learnt at training everything started to fall into place. They were able to get the ball down the court quickly and finish off with successful baskets. Evelyn, Taylor and Maggie were strong both offensively and defensively.
Game 2
The junior C girls played well on the weekend and managed to pull away with the win. As they continued to play their improvement was noticeable with their hard work and teamwork. The girls were leading the whole time and dominated against Oxley. Although it was getting tiring as this was their second game of the day, they pushed through and played till the end, their effort throughout the game was great.
Boys Basketball
Firsts
The First Boys Basketball team celebrated a strong win against St Pius, finishing the game 68-47. The players gave it their all and their determination was clear. This match provided a valuable opportunity to focus on our season's non-negotiables, particularly maintaining aggressive defence and high levels of communication. While there were varied levels of execution, the team showed overall improvement compared to the preseason tournament. Offensively, the team is beginning to gel, demonstrating better execution of our offensive plays and capitalising on fast break opportunities. We achieved our goal of improving each week and have identified areas to build on during training. With a strong desire to improve and meet our season goals, this team is looking forward to continued progress throughout the season.
17’s
The Boys Seconds team played hard against St Pius, losing 36-20. Despite the loss, the players showed great effort and teamwork.
As the game went on, their defensive intensity improved, leading to some strong defensive plays. The team never gave up and worked well together.
This match was a positive start to the season, with clear areas for improvement. We are excited to see how the team develops as the season progresses. Overall, it was a competitive game that provided valuable experience.
13’s
The first game of the 13s Boys' season was a tough matchup against Saint Pius X, who got off to a quick start to build a lead in the first half. The BMGS boys, however, were able to pull it back through relentless defense and by half time the score was even again. The game remained neck and neck throughout the second half, with Saint Pius X hitting a tough shot with a few seconds left on the clock to beat our BMGS boys by two points. However, the boys played with grit and toughness throughout the game, and showed great promise for the rest of the season.
Girls Basketball - Round 2
Firsts
97-20
The girls had a very tough game against Barker. They are a lot more experienced and a lot taller than our team. I am very proud of the girls because even though they were down by a large deficit they never gave up, continued to try their best, still encouraged each other and had fun.
Open C
46-13
The girls had a great win against Barker. They did a really good job pushing out and scoring off fast breaks. They worked really well together as a team. There is room for improvement in their defence but we will work on this at training.
Junior A
The Junior A Girls played Barker and were defeated 46-15. In an improved effort the girls competed strongly against an extremely tall opposition. All players performed well with Gracie, Elise and Abigail putting in particularly strong performances.
Junior C
The Junior C girls played a double header against teams form Barker College. They played well winning both games. The first game was an extremely physical encounter with the girls eventually winning 27-23.
Maggie and Charlotte had strong games. After an extremely tiring first game the girls backed up well to win 25-13. Maggie, Izzy and Hannah had great games.
Boys Basketball
Firsts
Our 1st Basketball Boys team faced a tough challenge in their game against SACS. From the tip-off, both teams fought hard. SACS presented strong defensive pressure and offensive threats, pushing our boys to step up and make key adjustments, particularly on the defensive end.
While the game had its ups and downs, our team showed incredible resilience. There were moments of excellent execution but also areas where communication and defense could be improved. However, the boys never gave up, continuously battling through each possession. Their hard work paid off as they managed to secure a well-deserved victory.
This game was a great learning experience, and we look forward to seeing the team build on this performance. With continued improvement and better communication, there are plenty of exciting moments ahead for the rest of the season.
17’s
This week, our 17’s team delivered an exciting performance in a nail-biting game against SACS. The players truly stepped up, showing a noticeable improvement in their defensive efforts. It was fantastic to see more of our players looking to be an offensive threat, contributing to a well-rounded team effort.
The game was a fierce contest from start to finish, with both teams battling hard throughout. As the clock wound down, the tension was high, but our team kept their composure and secured a fantastic last-minute shot to clinch the win.
With only two games played so far, the progress this team has shown is already remarkable. The players’ determination and growth on both sides of the ball are exciting to see, and we’re looking forward to watching this team continue to develop and achieve great things this season.
15’s
Coming up against SACS early in the season we always knew that this was going to be a hard game. The boys worked hard on defence for the whole game with full time seeing a draw. The boys then went into overtime where they remained focused and were therefore able to get the win.
14’s
The 14 boys were short a few players this weekend with rep games in Port Macquarie. The team are to be commended on ensuring that they listened to the coach and as a result they showed a clear improvement during the second half of the game. Training will be important to try and continue to master some basic skills. The boys need to work on improving their team work.
13’s
The 13s Boys' second-round matchup against Saint Andrew's Cathedral School was another exciting and competitive game, with BMGS shining offensively throughout, consistently making strong drives to the rim and getting second looks out of offensive rebounds. Saint Andrew's proved fierce competition, with key players hitting a number of tough shots to keep their team in the game. An unfortunate 10-point run for Saint Andrew's in the second half left the Grammar boys with a tough deficit to recover, and this lead ultimately proved too large to overcome, with Saint Andrew's coming away with the win. The game showed great promise on the offensive end for the young Grammar team as they continue to develop over the course of the season.
