Dear BMGS Senior School Community,
As we reach the halfway point of Term 4, I want to acknowledge the resilience and commitment demonstrated by our students as they engage in a busy season of exams, projects, and celebrations of learning. With a mixture of excitement and reflection, we are preparing to say farewell to our Year 12 students while supporting our younger cohorts as they complete another school year.
Our Year 12 students have shown remarkable determination throughout their final year, culminating in their HSC exams. This milestone is both a celebration of hard work and a moment of transition as they embark on new journeys. We are incredibly proud of all they have achieved, not only academically but also in their growth as compassionate and capable individuals ready to face the world. I extend my heartfelt congratulations to every student, along with gratitude to their families and our dedicated teachers who have supported them.
For our Year 11 students, stepping into senior responsibilities has been both challenging and rewarding. With their Preliminary exams now behind them, they are beginning their HSC studies. I encourage our Year 11 students to view this time as an opportunity to set goals, refine study habits, and embrace their roles as senior leaders. Our new Student Leadership Team has already made a positive impact, showing great initiative and a strong commitment to fostering a vibrant school community.
Their first Senior School initiative was to run World Teacher's Day on 25th October. Thank you to everyone for dressing up in their best teachers' outfits and raising money for Compassion education and training programs. There was a special assembly featuring a teacher's Q & A and a special video from the student body.
Our Year 10 students will soon participate in the End of Year Program, which includes activities to help them develop essential skills and reflect on their future pathways. Attendance is mandatory, as it covers crucial elements such as the NESA Minimum Standards and "All My Own Work" certification. These are required for their progression to senior years and provide them with a foundation for academic honesty and integrity as they move forward.
Our Year 8 students are eagerly preparing for their upcoming camp experience, which promises to be filled with adventure, teamwork, and personal growth. This camp will provide a fantastic opportunity for students to step outside their comfort zones, tackle outdoor challenges, and build stronger connections with their peers. They’ll navigate hikes, try their hand at various outdoor activities, and spend nights under the stars—all while displaying resilience and enthusiasm. These experiences will foster independence and confidence, as well as strengthen friendships and teamwork skills that will support them as they continue their journey through Senior School. We look forward to seeing them embrace new experiences and grow together!
In the past few weeks, I have been continually impressed by the stories of resilience and achievement from our students across all year levels.
On Sunday 20th October, Year 12 Student and School Captain Sophia Huckel had the privilege of meeting His Majesty King Charles III at NSW Parliament House. Sophia was asked to meet His Majesty during his visit to the parliament to mark the Bicentenary of the NSW Legislative Council, after winning the Bicentenary Regional Public Speaking Competition.
Sophia says meeting His Majesty was “an absolute honour and a privilege” and “a once in a lifetime experience”. Sophia also spoke at an exclusive luncheon celebrating the events of the Bicentenary, during which she reflected on the importance of “preserving, promoting and taking pride in our democratic institutions.” Congratulations Sophia, and thank you for representing BMGS so proudly.
Thank you to all students, staff, and parents for your support and commitment this term. As we look ahead to the remaining weeks, I am excited to see the continued growth and achievements of our Senior School community.
Warm regards,
Alicia Michielsen
