Term 1 Week 2
Welcome to a very exciting year of STEAM where sessions are shared between myself, Mrs Nestor, and Mrs Furlong. I will be teaching Grades 3 to 6 during Semester 1 and Prep to 2, during Semester 2 and will focus on the Engineering Design Process and Technology. Mrs Furlong will be teaching Food Technology with Prep to 2 during Semester 1 and grades 3 to 6 during Semester 2. We are both very excited to be able to offer a wider range of STEAM skills to the students and look forward to seeing what they can achieve. Head over to her Food Technology and Kitchen Garden page in the newsletter for more information.
Focus for grades 3 to 6 this week has been to look at how STEAM skills of teamwork, cooperation, collaboration, resilience and persistence, (to name just a few) are beneficial requirements for future employment. We looked at many industries that it could be possible to work in and what STEAM skills these jobs entailed. We then practised these skills by performing challenges of the Levitating Hoop where students’ persistence and getting along skills were stretched to the limit! It was hilarious to watch their faces when the hoop went up even though they were trying to lower it to the ground.
Bridge building over a large gap, with various equipment, that was strong enough to hold a travelling bus was investigated by the grade 5 and 6 students on Wednesday. They demonstrated great teamwork and resilience.
I will end with the words of wisdom by Ace in 5B “If you can think it, you can do it!” and he did!
I'd love to welcome the Prep - Year 2 students of 2025 back down to the Music Room! It's been so lovely seeing our Junior School students in Music. We have spent the past week explore percussion instruments in Prep & Year 1 and learning chants in Year 2.
Teamwork plays a big role in Music and it's been great to see the students navigating their new classes and working out how to cooperate in teams. Looking forward to having a fun semester.
Choir runs on a Thursday at lunchtime for anyone who wants to come and have a sing!
