Welcome to the 2025 school year! I hope everyone had a fantastic summer break and that the transition back into the school routine has been a smooth one. Over the holidays, our school was a hive of activity, with both cosmetic and structural improvements taking place. Our Year 1, Year 2, and Year 5 classrooms received a fresh coat of paint, and the previously open-planned Prep Patch has been converted into four separate classrooms, optimising these spaces for learning.
It has been wonderful to see our students settling in so well, and I've enjoyed chatting with many of them about their excitement for the year of learning ahead.
We're looking forward to our first community event of the year next Tuesday – our Meet the Teacher and Twilight Sports Event. The afternoon will begin in classrooms, where families will have the opportunity to scrapbook their child’s Reader’s Notebook, before concluding with the Skye PS Family Amazing Race! With seven activities scattered around the school, this will be a fun and interactive way to come together as a school community.
This week, we hosted our PTF Annual General Meeting, and it was fantastic to see so many parents eager to contribute to the life of our school. The PTF plays an integral role in fostering community spirit, providing fun and engaging opportunities for our students, and raising valuable funds to support the school.
Congratulations to our newly elected office bearers:
We look forward to working together with the wider PTF group throughout the year!
A reminder that Friday, 14th February is a pupil-free day. Our entire staff, including teachers, education support, and administration teams, will be participating in the third of four Berry Street Education Model training sessions. This training equips our team with best-practice trauma-informed, positive education strategies to better support our students. The focus of this session will be on the domains of 'Stamina and Engagement':
Stamina: Creating a culture of academic persistence by nurturing resilience, emotional intelligence and a growth mindset.
Engagement: Motivating students with strategies that increase their willingness to learn
We are excited to announce the launch of our new Active Paths initiative! Developed in partnership with Bicycle Network’s Ride2School team, with input from students, staff, and local council, these paths provide a safe, fun, and active way for students to travel to school.
Each path is approximately 1km long and is marked with color-coded directional decals leading directly to our school gates. For families who need to drive part of the way, there are designated “Park & Walk” locations at the starting points, making it easy to join in for the final leg of the journey.
To celebrate, we will be organising group walks from each path, departing at 8:15am. Whether you choose to walk, scoot, skate, or ride – we’d love for you to take part! Students who participate will receive a sticker, and we’ll have a special snack waiting for them at school.
More information to come via Sentral.
At Skye Primary School, we are committed to respecting the privacy of our students and families. We adhere to the Schools’ Privacy Policy and Schools’ Privacy Collection Notice in the collection and use of personal information. Please take a moment to review our policies regarding photographing, filming, and recording students. If you have any questions or concerns, please don’t hesitate to contact the school.
As a parent myself, I understand the challenges of the daily drop-off and pick-up routine. As we all settle back into the school year, please keep the following in mind:
Thanks to everyone for your support in starting this school year so positively. I look forward to working closely with you throughout 2025.
Have a great fortnight!
Warm regards,
Tim
