Auslan Extra

Howdy Families, Carers, and the Armstrong Creek Community!

🌟 Breaking News… Auslan Extra! is BACK! 🌟

First things first—let me introduce myself! I’m Andrew Welshe, one of the Auslan teachers here at ACS. We have an amazing team of six Auslan teachers—how exciting is that?! In the next newsletter, I’ll include photos and a little bio about each of them so you can get to know us better.

What is Auslan Extra?

You might be wondering… What’s this all about? 🤔Well, Auslan Extra! first started back in 2021, but it had a little break. Now, it’s back and better than ever! 🎉

How does it work?

The Armstrong Creek School newsletter will include a link to an Auslan video on YouTube, along with some fun learning resources.

Why?We want to make sure everyone in your home—kids, parents, carers, even grandparents—gets a chance to learn and enjoy Auslan! These videos will match what students are already learning at school, making it a great refresher for them, too.

How can you use the videos?

✔️ Watch them together as a family 👨‍👩‍👧‍👦

✔️ Practise on your own (maybe at night) and surprise your kids with your new skills the next day! 🤩

What will the videos look like?

Each video will be 3 to 5 minutes long and will include:

✅ Me (Andrew) teaching Auslan signs 👋

✅ English text and pictures to help you understand 📸

✅ Students or even brave teachers joining in the fun! 🎥

Since Auslan is a visual language, the videos won’t have any sound, but I’ll include text and pictures to help make learning easier.

I’d love your feedback or ideas—feel free to email me or come and have a chat!

In this YouTube clip, basic Greetings and vocabulary related to Emotions is demonstrated.

Enjoy, and happy learning.Â
