Year 3/4 Mainstream

Celebrating Learning

What a finish to the end of the year! Students in 3/4 put in a massive effort for our Celebration of Learning event on Friday last week. The rooms were all completely rearranged, and each student sat excitedly at their tables around the outsides of the classrooms, waiting to share their knowledge acquired during our Beneath Our Feet unit of work.

It was just wonderful to see so many parents, carers, grandparents, aunties, uncles, teachers, and even older siblings crowding the spaces to chat to the 3/4 kids, and find out about their amazing projects. Thanks to each and every person for their support of our learning program, and for the kind compliments offered and questions asked to the students!

On display were:

  • Landform information report posters, where students researched a landform (mountains, rivers, waterfalls etc) and published the most important knowledge they discovered in beautifully decorated posters

  • Landform dioramas that students put an INCREDIBLE amount of work into. They used papier-mâché technique to form the main aspects in a box, and then used a combination of paint and mostly natural materials like leaves, sand or rocks to give added realistic detail.

  • Rock and soil posters that showed facts about different kinds of earth, or information about sedimentary, igneous and metamorphic rocks

  • Natural disaster recounts, in which students imagined their character recalling the events of a hurricane, flood, fire or other disaster based on research they completed and made an effort to use sensory detail

  • Narratives that combined all elements of their research with a focus on using their chosen landform as a setting and featured a magical stone as part of the problem or solution.

The 3/4 has had a rollicking year with the current bunch, and it was a pleasure to be able to celebrate their learning together. We have appreciated the support from families and carers over both semesters, and hope you all have an excellent holiday period.

Warmly, Jo M, Beth, Darren and Jo B.
