Prep Transition

We had around 50 bright-eyed Kinder students attend 4 mornings of Transition Visits in readiness for Prep which concluded on the 21st November. It was successful and fun with the students getting to know each other, their new teachers and the school. Most activities took place in the classroom but on the last day they had a Recess break and an opportunity to play on the playground.

A well-attended information night was held and it was great to meet many of the new families who I am sure will be made very welcome as they begin their journey as Lakeside College families.

Christmas Concert

What a joyful occasion it was for the Christmas Concert. There was a terrific vibe on the evening as families congregated under the roof of the basketball court. The students put a great deal of effort into making sure they knew the songs and the robust singing was a testament to their efforts. An evening such as this couldn’t have happened without the hard work of the organisation team superbly led by Leo Williames with great support from Adele Smit, Stacey Zhou and John Glover in particular. It was a team effort from all the Primary staff who assisted in many ways.

Thanks must also go to the PTFA who spent several hours on ensuring patrons had sausages, popcorn and drinks. Long after everyone had headed home, members of the PTFA were tidying up and putting everything away. Thank you very much.

Primary School Sensory Garden and Nature Play

We are very thankful for the support of the PTFA for the future development of the primary play areas, which will include a sensory garden and nature play space. We have engaged the services of landscape architects Orchard Design, to create a design for it. You will see below the initial concept design of the potential scope of the new play areas. This is an exciting development and the financial contribution of the P&F to get it off the ground is very much appreciated.

They have committed around $30000 towards the project which will be added to the college’s capital expenditure commitments to make the project come to fruition. Given the scale of the project, it’s likely to be completed in stages. There will be elements of indigenous culture embedded into it as an environmental education focus.

Celebrating Our Year Six Graduates!

Dear Parents and Families,

This week, we had the privilege of celebrating a momentous occasion in our students’ educational journey; the Year Six Graduation! It was heartwarming to see so many families and loved ones gather together to recognise the achievements, growth and resilience of our graduating class. Your presence made the event all the more special, reminding us of the strong and supportive community we are fortunate to be a part of.

As our Year Six students prepare to embark on the exciting adventure of secondary school, we encourage them to embrace this next chapter with confidence and curiosity. The transition may bring challenges, but it will also provide countless opportunities to learn, grow and discover new passions. We remind our graduates to stay organised by managing their time effectively and develop study habits that work for them, be open-minded and try new activities, subjects and friendships, to ask for help and seek support from teachers, peers and family when needed and to stay true to themselves by remembering their values and continue to make positive choices.

To our graduates, we wish you every success in your future endeavours. You all have been an integral part of our school community, and we are confident that you will continue to achieve great things as you step into this new phase of your lives. Remember the lessons you’ve learned in Primary School, both in the classroom and beyond, as this will serve as a strong foundation for the exciting journey ahead.

Congratulations once again to our Year Six graduates, and thank you to all families for your continued support throughout their primary school years. We look forward to hearing about the wonderful things our students will achieve in the years to come.

Warm regards,

Miss Leah Kelly, Mr Samuel Webster and Mrs Melissa Harford

ALWS - Market Stalls

What an incredible experience the Year Six Market Stalls turned out to be! The level of enthusiasm, creativity and initiative displayed by our student community was inspiring.

From brainstorming business ideas to executing their plans with flair, it was evident that this project captured their imaginations. Our stalls ranged in ideas from ice cream sundaes and zooper doopers to fidgets and scrunchies.

Our Lakeside Community was thrilled to see our young entrepreneurs take ownership of their stalls and demonstrate skills in teamwork, budgeting, marketing and customer service. Their smiles and pride in their efforts were a testament to the hard work and thought they put into making the market days a success.

A heartfelt thank you goes out to you; our parents, families and loved ones; for your unwavering support with helping with the purchasing and organising of items, the bringing in of materials and offers of encouragement. A huge thank you to the adults who supported this adventure along the way including our Business Advisors Chris Cox and Deb Mibus and our Financial Consultants Melissa McIntyre, Sue James and Craig Kupke.

All funds raised through the market stalls will be donated to the Australian Lutheran World Service (ALWS) to support their Gifts of Grace initiative, aiding families who are living in impoverished societies. This event raised $1512 and will change the lives of many people. Through this experience our students have gained an understanding of how their efforts alter lives and have a positive impact on others by extending grace and support to those in need.

Thank you once again for helping make the Year Six Market Stalls an unforgettable experience for our students - we look forward to next year where we can repeat this experience all over again.

Prep Excursion

The Preps recently enjoyed an exciting excursion to the Museum of Play and Art (MoPA), where they immersed themselves in interactive exhibits that sparked their creativity and imagination. The museum provided hands-on activities that encouraged artistic expression and problem-solving.

The children explored a variety of exhibits, from vibrant art displays to imaginative play zones, all designed to foster learning through fun and exploration. The day was filled with discovery, joy and inspiration, leaving the students eager to continue their creative journeys. A highlight of the excursion was the group disco at the end, where everyone had a blast dressing up and dancing together!

King of Christmas Concert

On Wednesday 4th of December we held our second annual Junior Primary Christmas Concert with our Prep to Year 4 students. We followed the tale of the shepherds (and sheep!) who heard the angels telling the good news that the Saviour was born. We watched as they went to go find the newborn baby, meeting some Wise Men on their journey. We reflected that some of the current symbols of Christmas (such as Christmas trees, candy canes, fairy lights, and presents) also remind us to look back to our ‘King of Christmas’.

Well done to our Year 4 students who have spent most of the term learning lines and practicing their songs! Well done also to our Prep to Year 3 students who also learned their songs and performed them beautifully. A big thank you to the teachers and other staff who gave their time practicing with their classes, helping to set up, and supervising their classes on the night. Thank you to all of the parents and families who helped their children in learning their lines and who attended the concert. Finally, thank you to the PTFA for running the food stall!

We look forward to next year’s Christmas Concert!

Mrs Leo Williames, Miss Adele Smit, and Mr John Glover

Prep - Year 2 Athletics Carnival

Wednesday 20th November saw the weather in perfect form for Lakeside’s P-2 Athletics carnival.

Our students headed out to the Toomuc athletics track for rotations of sprints, distance running, hurdles, vortex, long jump, batton relays and team ball events.

Our primary house captains and secondary helpers were on hand to run the events, while our wonderful junior teachers were supporting the groups as they moved from event to event.

There were smiles, dancing and healthy competition- lots of fun and excitement for our future superstars.

Congratulations to the winning house- Bunurong- who were the winners of the junior athletics shield in a closely contested event.

A special thanks to all the family and friends who came along to support our little athletes and to the PE team for making the day a success.

Colour Run

We are thrilled to announce the amazing success of our Colour Run fundraiser held on Friday, 29 November. Congratulations to all of our students who actively participated and fundraised on behalf of our school.

The day was graced with perfect weather, providing an ideal backdrop for this fun-filled, colourful event. The atmosphere was electric as students, staff and families donned their white T-shirts, ready to be doused in a myriad of rainbow colours. It was particularly heartwarming to witness the strong friendships among our students and staff, as they showed unwavering support for one another throughout the day.

A special acknowledgment goes to Mrs Rothwell, Mr Kiernan, Mr Webster, and Mr Kupke for their brave and entertaining participation in the sliming – your willingness to take part added an extra layer of fun and excitement to the event!

We would also like to extend our heartfelt gratitude to the Parent, Teachers and Friends Association (PTFA) for meticulously organising this memorable occasion. Your hard work and dedication ensured everything ran smoothly and we appreciate all the time and effort you have invested.

The Colour Run is undoubtedly a day we all look forward to each year, and this year was no exception. Thank you for being a part of our community and for your continued support!

Annual Primary Disco a Hit!

Our Annual Primary Disco, held on December 3rd, was an absolutely fantastic event! It was amazing to see so many students embracing the theme of ‘People Who Inspire Us’, dressing up as their role models and icons. From sporting legends to Christmas Angels, the creativity on display was truly exceptional.

The dance floor was buzzing with energy, featuring popular dances such as the Macarena, Nutbush and Gangnam Style, along with a lively rendition of the YMCA. Our students revelled in singing along and jumping around to the infectious music. The atmosphere was certainly filled with joy and excitement!

A special shout out goes to our wonderful DJ family, the Shillams, who ensured that everyone stayed active and engaged for the full hour and a half. Their music selection had the perfect mix to keep our students on their feet. It was fabulous to see even our teachers joining in on the fun! Mr Cavalin showcased some impressive breakdancing, while Ms Kelly entertained everyone with the worm, and Mr Kupke lit up the floor with his Nutbush skills!

We are incredibly grateful to the PTFA for their generous support in selling LED bracelets, glasses, rings and goodie bags, adding to the excitement of the occasion.

Overall, it was a blast! Thank you to everyone who contributed to making this event a night to remember!
