David's Message

Dear Sunshine Heights Parents and Carers,

Schools are a place of flux. Each year we welcome a new cohort of amazing prep students, and bid a fond farewell to our grade 6s. This year I feel incredibly connected to our grade 6 graduates, and they are a truly special group of students. I wanted to particularly acknowledge the growth they have undertaken this year to become ready for high school, and the hard work of their teachers Mr Jake and Miss Thomai in setting such high expectations for them to rise to.

We also bid a few farewells at the end of this year. Miss Aasta is moving to Country Victoria, and will be living with her family in Wodonga. Aasta has developed an amazing Art Program over the years with Miss Francine, and her contributions to our environmental work and Nugal Nganjin Garden will not be forgotten. We wish her the very best of luck in her new adventures, and she will be very sadly missed. We are excited welcome to our school Lauren Jamieson as our new Art Specialist. Lauren is already known to our community as she has her son currently in prep, and she has an exciting vision to build on our Art Program in the coming years. We know that the art program of the future is going to be exciting, unique and full of a universe of possibilities.

Miss Irene will be on Leave during term 1 as she hosts family from Spain, and we can also share the exciting news that she will be taking Maternity Leave from term 2 onwards as she welcomes a sibling for Alba. We wish her a very safe arrival and I'm sure we will have an opportunity to say a proper (temporary) farewell to Miss Irene in 2025. We are currently recruiting for our replacement Spanish teacher during the school holidays.

Finally, Kerrie Wolf, currently one of our amazing prep team teachers will be retiring next year after taking some leave at the start of the year. We will do a proper goodbye for her in May next year, but I wanted to personally acknowledge the contribution she has made to our school over a significant number of years. Kerrie has taught many year levels in our school, and is as eager to learn and excel as a teacher as she was when she started. Kerrie has been with our school for 27 years, seen many changes and had hundreds of her students move through and graduate from us. We will have another special gathering for Kerrie in May 2025 when she completes her Long Service Leave, and we absolutely wish her the very best for her retirement after such an incredible time with our school.

Please have a happy and safe holidays, and we look forward to welcoming you all back on the 30th January 2025.

Best wishes,

David and the Entire Sunny Heights Team!
