A message from School Council

Messages from school council…

  • School council meeting summary this week from Ellis…

This week we held the last NPS Council meeting, which had a substantial agenda, with a focus on 2025!

We covered of the Indicative Cash Budget for 2025, which is tight, based on current expectations of 304 students, but with the school saving bonus we are hoping for more parent contributions too.  It also includes valuable and further engagement of the numeracy consultant who we successfully worked with this year and the addition of a literacy consultant for a number of the curriculum days next year too.

As inputs to the budget, council approved all excursions and camps for the 2025 year, and the dates and costs will be provided to parents in 2024.

We are planning to continue to run 14 classrooms, and hope that will continue into 2026 and beyond.

The final budget is presented in April / May 2025 after the final audit is performed, and student numbers are confirmed.

As always, if you hear of anyone in the community talking about schools, jump in and promote our amazing NPS community.

To ensure we continue to offer the great services to our students the Paid Parent Arrangement payments are only increasing $10 to $360 per student. This truly represents a great value for the services / benefits this provides our kids, including Mathletics, Reading Eggs and… to name a few.

PPA will appear in Compass from 20th January 2025.

We received the results from the Parent / Guardian Survey with 100 respondents, presenting a good result overall (need insights from the survey).

All school curriculum days have been planned and approved; these dates too will be added to the website / key dates calendar.

Our 2025 community event calendar has been planned and the dates will be updated on our website and newsletter soon. Of course, our flagship fete day is planned for Saturday 22 March 2025 between 11am and 4pm.

We are still expecting that early in 2025, the planned landscaping works will commence with play equipment being installed before the end of Term 1.

Our last School Council meeting for the 2024 year is in late February before we begin a new term for 2025. If you’re interested in knowing more about School Council or becoming a member of the council next year, please reach out to Shaun or Jo Pitt (our Current NPS Council President).

We thank everyone for their participation and support throughout 2024.

  • Meet another of our newest members of school council…

Hi, Ben Serhat Ozel, Kaan’s dad, from grade 3. I joined the NPS Council as the Community Committee Leader at the beginning of this year, and it’s been a rewarding experience so far. Being part of the council has given me a chance to contribute to the school community and collaborate with other similar minded parents and staff to create a positive and supportive environment for our children.

I’m a Product Design Systems Engineer with a degree in Mathematics, and I’m passionate about problem-solving and creating systems that work efficiently.

I deeply admire my parents and grandparents for their wisdom, hard work, and the values they’ve instilled in me. Their guidance has shaped who I am today, and I strive to pass on those lessons to Kaan.  I am also a sperm donor for other 2 boys and twin girls.

I’m passionate about fostering connections within the school community and supporting initiatives that enhance student engagement and well-being. I believe that parent involvement plays a crucial role in shaping the school experience and making a meaningful difference for all our kids.

Fun fact: I enjoy outdoor adventures like kite surfing, skiing, paragliding, and camping, so you’ll often find me planning our next family escapade.

If you see me at pick-up on my dodgy bike, feel free to say hi! So, I can advise you to put a toothbrush in your children bags. :)

  • Northcote Primary branded clothing…

A number of parents and children have expressed interest in expanding the range of items available to our students to include shorts/pants and a summer dress. Therefore, we are currently working with the provider Noone to include these.

There are navy blue shorts and pants already available under ‘essentials’ on their website- https://www.noone.com.au/school/essentials/shop?groups=22667_trousers

And an NPS summer dress is also in design and will be available later in 2025-we will share with you when it is available to purchase!
