Hello Level 2 families!

We’re excited to begin a wonderful year of learning and growth with your child. As we embark on this journey together, we look forward to getting to know each student, celebrating their strengths, and supporting their development. This year will be filled with engaging lessons, new friendships, and plenty of fun along the way. Thank you for being part of our school community—we can’t wait to share this adventure with you!

English

Our Year 2 students have had a fantastic start, settling back into their Core Literacy lessons with enthusiasm! Over the past weeks, they’ve been strengthening their phonics knowledge by revisiting key sounds, including /au/, /aw/, /oe/, and /eigh/, as well as exploring suffixes such as -ed, -es, -ing, and -s.

🔹 Week 3: We will focus on the /ture/ sound (as in adventure) and revisit the suffixes -      ful and -less.

🔹 Week 4: Our spotlight will be on the /tion/ sound (as in action) and the suffix -er.

Additionally, we will introduce our new mentor text, Jetty Jump. This exciting story will help students explore the use of adjectives and adverbs, inspiring them to enhance their own writing with more descriptive language. We will explore how authors use words to describe how a setting looks and feels.

Maths

In the coming weeks, students will deepen their understanding of number concepts by learning how to form, regroup, and rename numbers with confidence. They will also explore additive patterns, identifying sequences that increase and decrease by a set amount.

Additionally, we will focus on data collection and representation, where students will gather and record information using a variety of methods. They will then compare different data displays, analyse patterns, and discuss their findings to develop critical thinking skills.

We look forward to seeing their mathematical reasoning and problem-solving abilities grow!

Inquiry

Our inquiry focus for this term is health and exploring different emotions.  Students will develop an understanding of their character strengths and learn to recognise and embrace them. They will explore their Zones of Regulation, gaining the skills to accurately identify the emotions they experience. By understanding and practicing emotional regulation, students will build the tools to manage their feelings effectively, empowering them to take control of their learning and be successful in the classroom environment.

Reminders:

  • We are still needing ICT and Permission forms - please make sure you have the correct year at the top of the page.
  • School hats need to be worn at each break - if a student does not have a hat they will need to sit in the shaded area outside of 2As room.
  • Art Smocks need to be handed into classroom teachers.

Have a lovely weekend!
