Principal Message

We have completed our first full week of school for 2025 and its has been a hot and busy week. The weather has been top of the agenda with Monday and Tuesday temperatures giving way to an altered timetable to accommodate some play time outside and provide additional break. Of course, the power outage on Monday added another layer of complexity. Thanks to the staff, parents and students for working harmoniously in keeping the student's wellbeing at the forefront. As always, we get through it as a team.
We also welcomed our newest students to WPS on Monday with 2025 Prep students starting on Monday. There are always a few tears, but we found that the students felt safe and responded well to receiving support from our wonderful Education Support staff and Winston on their first day. We had our traditional guard of honour for our preps at the end of their first day. A wonderful display of the Warrandyte way.
A check in on the Preps after lunch on Friday showed a few emotional and teary little children who have done so well trying to adapt to the longer days and the hot weather. They saw the day out with some quiet time and found their second wind. Its been a pleasure to get to know our newest students and be a part of the start of their primary school journey.
Family BBQ & Kids Karaoke next Thursday @ 5pm - 7pm
We will be holding our first family event for 2025 next week. We are putting this evening on to give our families a chance to reconnect or meet new parents. Our community is a particularly closeknit one and we are looking forward to come together with our staff who can attend. We are setting up karaoke in the Bampi and students will get a chance to choose a song or songs to sing solo, together or with family members. We hope you can come along and join in the fund. FOWPS are doing their bit as always, putting on a BBQ. We invite you to bring a rug, chairs and relax with friends and family. The weather at this stage is looking good.
Shout Out for new FOWPS members
We would love for you to consider being a part of the FOWPS committee and support our small school. You can do as much or as little as you can to help and we have a wonderful President, Terri Fernando, who does a great job of coordinating any fundraising. This year we have already purchased a screen and screen projector for the Bampi and will also be using fundraising funds to buy podcasting recording equipment in the next week or so. A podcasting recording studio will be created for a student style news podcast, aim at providing our students with a voice and alternative medium to present information.
When events come up Terri generally puts out a message on the Friends of Warrandyte Primary School's Facebook page. You might not be able to help every time but just helping out when you can makes a big difference. If you are new to the school, it is a great way of meeting parents and experiencing the Warrandyte community spirit.
If you are interested in helping out head to the Facebook page or let Cherise know at the office and she will connect you.
Swimming Sports on Monday
We have Swimming Sports on Monday for our Grade 3 - 6's. With the weather still being warm, please ensure your child has a hat, water bottle and sunscreen. For our Grade 3 s it will be their first time and they may be nervous but most quickly overcome it once there. The day is always a lot of fun and the students enjoy cheering on their House throughout the event. Sally puts in a lot of work to organise the event and it always runs like clockwork.
We will be running an assembly on Monday afternoon. The heat forced us to cancel our scheduled assembly this week, so we look forward to our Grade 6 students running their first assembly. Please come along to support our new student leaders.
Have a lovely weekend.
