Mr Michael Connolly, Head of Primary School
I would like to offer you all a warm welcome back to our final term together here in the Primary School. I hope that you found some time during the past two weeks to slow the pace of life down just a little, without the busyness that having a child at school creates. For those parents new to our college this year, you will need to believe me when I say that this term goes incredibly quickly. No sooner are we starting off and getting back into the swing of things when it seems that we are preparing to wrap up another year with our boys!
Importantly, the beginning of a new term is an opportunity to set the tone for the rest of the term. A strong start to this term allows the boys to build a solid foundation for the term ahead. This would include developing positive habits early on in the term. Our boys will be assisted to identify these habits during the next three days we have together in Week One and challenged to put these into action for the remainder of the term.
During the next two weeks, all parents are invited to book a time to meet with their son’s teacher. I encourage all parents to reflect on the discussions at these Parent/Teacher interviews and, using the suggestions shared, set some goals with the boys so that they have targets to aim for this term.
I thank you for your support in educating your sons here in the Primary School.
Over the course of the next six weeks, we will be hosting some of our Year 5, 2024 students for our Orientation Activity Days. There has been a wonderful response to this initiative with more than 120 boys attending either our problem-solving and creative writing workshops, our swimming sessions or our tennis clinics across the six weeks. Thanks to all the Primary School staff who are facilitating these opportunities for the newest members of our Marist Family.
Congratulations to all students who will be receiving awards next Monday evening at our Marist College Awards Night. These awards are a fitting way to recognise the hard work that has been done to date this year. I encourage all students in Years 5 and 6 to strive for their very best as we commence our final term together.
Welcome back to Term 4! I hope you all had a fantastic holiday break and had the chance to unwind and recharge for the upcoming busy 8 weeks of learning ahead.
Towards the end of the last term, our Year 5 students embarked on a journey to explore leadership opportunities at the College for the Year 6 class of 2024. During an enlightening afternoon session, these young boys delved into the essence of Marist leadership and its significance. Following this, they were encouraged to compose letters of application, which have been submitted to Mr. Connolly. Over the holiday period, we diligently reviewed these applications and are now in the process of shortlisting candidates for interviews. We aim to complete this process within the next 2-3 weeks, with the selected students set to be announced towards the end of the term. We want to commend the boys for their courage in stepping forward to pursue leadership roles, and even for those who may not be selected as formal leaders, we believe that every Year 6 student can contribute to making Marist a remarkable place through their actions and words.
Late last term, our primary boys had a unique opportunity to interview Year 12 students, a valuable exercise in preparing them for their graduation posters. It was truly heartwarming to witness these primary boys engaging with their senior counterparts, conducting themselves with utmost courtesy and respect. Following the interviews, the boys bonded over games of handball, conversations about high school, and spent quality time together as buddies. The primary boys will be working on creating posters, which they will present to their Year 12 buddies as they walk down the guard of honour during the graduation ceremony later this term.
As we embark on this term, I kindly request that parents and guardians ensure that the boys adhere to the College's expectations regarding haircuts and school uniform. During this Term, the boys are to wear their summer uniform and formal hat to and from school. Please note that blazers are not a part of the summer uniform.
Thank you for your cooperation, and let's make this term a successful and fulfilling one for our students at Marist College.
