Dance excursion to see ‘Ascent’ by Sydney Dance Company

As a student passionate about dance I felt that I gained so much from our excursion to see Sydney Dance Company's Ascent. It was amazing and incredibly inspiring to see the phenomenal skill of the dancers live in the theater. A personal highlight was getting to see three completely different works by three different choreographers, each with their own style. Not only were we able to experience this incredible art, we got to speak to the dancers themselves in a q&a, which gave me an insight into what it means to be a part of a professional show such as Ascent, which is an incredibly valuable thing for me to learn while still in school as someone interested in a career in dance. Overall I learnt so much, I felt extremely grateful to be able to experience such amazing dance through school, it really made me feel supported as a young artist. I was incredibly inspired and left the theatre just wanting to dance!

Thanks so much for taking us on the excursion!

Alice A (Year 9)

Seeing Sydney Dance company's new work 'Ascent' was absolutely amazing. The choreography explored in each section was inspiring. Watching the unique movement style really assisted in refinement of my solo that I am performing for my year 12 VCE. My absolute favourite was the second section where they showed the relationship between technology and nature."

School Production: ‘Down the Rabbit Hole’

Being a part of Alice and wonderland the production was an amazing experience that I am so grateful to have been a part of, It's fun to bring characters to life on a stage and to make audiences happy but the best part is meeting new people and getting to know them as a friend through weeks of practise together. I think everyone should do at least one musical or production in their life so they can have those same experiences and memories because thoughts like that can last years afterwards and give you something magical to think back on.

Kieffer B (Year 12)

In my role of stage manager for Alice in Wonderland: Down the Rabbit Hole, I was able to work with everyone involved, cast, crew and teachers alike. The cast rehearsed every Monday from when the play was cast in Term 1, up until it was performed in Term 3.

A number of teachers worked incredibly hard making the play the success it was. Hannah and Caitlyn were the amazing directors/producers, Mads lead the creation of the props and sets, helped by the production classes, Anna organised directed the music and Jenna did a fantastic job with the dancers.

As a Year 12, this was my last play and it certainly didn’t disappoint, thank you to everyone involved.
