Collaboration among students from different classes can lead to creative and successful projects. The students in Rooms 5, 6, and 7 have been working collaboratively to create and prepare for the Year 6 Market Day stall day.
Here are students some examples of students working together to create exhibits.
The students were delighted with the sensory toy creations they designed in Technology. Their task was to ‘design and create a sensory toy consisting of upcycled/recycled materials that are durable and aesthetically pleasing.’ These toys and a tutorial will be given to the Year 6 Market Day Stall to sell. This will support the Year 6 students to raise money for a gift to Burrendah Primary School.
Prototypes of our sensory toys were tested out by our Year 2 Buddies and they gave feedback on how to improve our designs. This happened on Pirate Day so we also enjoyed being pirates with our buddies too!
Safety tests were carried out on the toys before being passed onto the Market Day Stall with most of the toys passing the safety test. Excellent work Year 5 students with some very creative designs being passed onto the Year 6 students to sell.
We have had a busy start to Term 4 in Room 7. In English, we have started our persuasive writing hot task responding to the open-ended topic “A rule/law that we would like changed”. In Maths, we’ve been looking at chance/probability. We have created spinners and used our knowledge of probabilities as fractions to interpret and predict what the theoretical probability for each outcome could be. We then tested our spinners across several spins and analysed the results of our data.
In HASS, we’ve been looking at the Australian Electoral Process and are busy working on creating our ‘How to Vote’ brochures. In Design Tech, we’ve been hard at work creating our Solar Pizza Ovens. We are looking forward to testing our ovens next week when we cook English Muffin Pizzas. In Health with Mrs Taylor, we have been working on our ‘My Restaurant Rules’ assignment. During this assignment, we had to work collaboratively in small groups to design a menu that offers healthy choices for breakfast, lunch, and dinner.
Finally, we have been busy preparing our electoral campaigns for the upcoming Student Elections that will occur later in the term. A few students in the class also have written application letters to Mr Bradshaw and Ms Coleman for the role of ICT Technicians and Music Captains. We’ve also started our Social Dance and EduDance programs which have been great fun. Next week we will be attending our Parliament House Excursion with the other Year 5’s and we cannot wait!
We have had busy start to the year in Room 11. In English, we have been learning about the visual language that illustrators and photographers use when creating images. Our students applied techniques, such as framing, angle, colour and composition, to take some interesting and beautiful photos in our school playground. We also interpreted the illustrations of picture books, working in groups to analyse how visual techniques had been used to contribute to the meaning of the text. In HASS, we have started units in Civics and Citizenship. Year 4s have been researching our local council to find out about the services they provide our community. Year 5s have started finding out about democracy in Australia, conducting research to create a timeline of significant events in Australia’s democratic history.
