Principal's Report

Welcome Back to Term 4

It is hard to believe that we are already at the start of Term 4!  I hope that all our community had the opportunity to rest and relax over the school holiday break. At the end of Term 3, we hosted our Parent Student Teacher Conferences. Many students and their families attended in person and virtually, engaging in constructive discussions about their academic journey. It is important for students to reflect upon these learning conferences and consider what learning goals they aspire to achieve this term. I encourage all students to aim for excellence in their learning by always striving to do their best.

Year 7 Information Night

We had a very successful Year 7 Information Night, which took place on Monday September 4th. The event began with a BBQ, bringing families together and providing them with an opportunity to meet each other, students and staff and to begin building connections to the school community.     Following the BBQ, our formal presentations began, and the turnout was remarkable. So many families attended that we had to arrange for extra seating in the Performing Arts Centre to accommodate everyone. Our Year 7 Team took to the stage to provide insights into our transition process and to provide key information about starting at Lilydale Heights College. We also had two incredible student presenters, Maddie and Reid, who shared ‘what they wished they had known before starting in Year 7.’ Both students spoke with confidence and had the audience totally engaged.    One of the highlights of the evening was the positive feedback we received from those in attendance, both about the evening and the College in general.   We will welcome all our new Year 7 students back on December 12th for the statewide Orientation Day.

Year 12 Final Weeks

Whilst our Year 7 Information Night is the beginning of the learning journey for our Year 7 students, Term 4 is the final chapter for our Year 12’s. Term 4 marks the conclusion of their educational journey with us, and we couldn't be prouder of their growth and accomplishments. Over the next few weeks, students will be finalising their learning and, for our VCE students, preparing for their final exams.  I encourage our Year 12 students to spend their final weeks revising and consolidating their knowledge and skills, reaching out to teachers for guidance and feedback, engaging in self-reflection on their learning journey, and undertaking numerous practice exams. Your continued motivation and dedication to your learning will aid you greatly in the lead up to your exams.   I would also ask our Year 12 students to reflect upon their time at Lilydale Heights College, the friendships they have formed and the memories they have made. I wish all our Year 12 students the very best for the next few weeks and look forward to celebrating their accomplishments at their Valedictory Dinner.

Building Update – B Wing is Open!

I am pleased to share that our new B Wing building is open. This state-of-the-art facility contains three science laboratories, two science preparation rooms, three general purpose classrooms, two kitchens, new student toilets and a brand new café!  All of this is surrounded by breathtaking views of the hills and some beautiful landscaping making it an inspiring place to teach and learn. We look forward to seeing our students make the most of this fantastic addition to our incredible school.
