Dear Parents and Carers,

Last week our 3/4 students have headed off on camp to Lord Somers down on the Peninsula. This camp provided students with an immense amount of fun and continues to support their development in problem solving. The weather was excellent for an outdoor camp. All of the students feedback has been extremely positive and they had an amazing time! This week Bike Education starts. Bike Education is an outstanding opportunity for students to develop their skills and knowledge around road safety, bike safety and mechanics; alongside having fun with their peers. 

Congratulations to all of our students who represented Somerville Primary School at the District Athletics.

Early next week we will be sending out our Parent Contributions information for 2024.

After listening to parent feedback, we have opted to simplify the process and have organised the supply of book packs and curriculum materials delivered directly to school. 

Payments for curriculum items and other contributions will be sent out via Compass on October 31st, 2023 for payment by December 15th, 2023.   If you would like discuss payment plans, or need any assistance or support, please do not hesitate to contact Melissa Barrett our Business Manager. 

As part of our commitment to improving teaching and learning outcomes, some of our teachers have been completing the initial training for Multi-Sensory Learning. This training is part of our commitment to phonological and phonemic awareness. This approach compliments and further builds on our Structured Synthetic Phonics (Little Learners Love Literacy) in the Junior years. There have been multiple articles in the media about the Phonics and Phonological Awareness. The MSL training takes the “Science of Reading” training to the next step, which will impact more areas in the curriculum. The training the staff are completing is run over a 12 month period.
