THE LUME Excursion
Dear Parents and Guardians,
We are delighted to share the inspiring experience our Year 3 students recently enjoyed during their much-anticipated excursion to THE LUME at the Melbourne Convention Centre. As part of their study of the artist Vincent Van Gogh, students had the unique opportunity to engage with his artwork in a deeply immersive and unforgettable way.
Since Term 1, our students have been exploring the life, history, and creative legacy of Van Gogh. They have learned about his techniques, influences, and the emotional depth of his work, even creating their own Van Gogh-inspired pieces in art classes. The excursion to THE LUME brought these studies to life, offering a real-world connection to the themes they have been investigating in their art classes.
THE LUME’s innovative digital gallery space used large-scale projections, music, and interactive exhibits to completely immerse students in Van Gogh’s world. Highlights included the opportunity to recreate famous artworks such as Starry Night and The Bedroom, in The Artist Studio. They were also able to experience the 360-degree Cylinder Room—where digital landscapes responded to the students' movements. Another memorable moment for many students was the Infinity Room, a stunning space filled with sunflowers and shimmering stars that seemed to stretch for infinity.
The excursion was not only a visual feast but also a deeply meaningful learning experience that sparked curiosity, creativity, and inspiration. A special thank you goes to Mrs. Fountain and Ms. Jones for their invaluable assistance on the day, and for helping make this excursion so successful.
It was a day to remember, and we are so happy with the enthusiasm and engagement of our students throughout the experience.
Sincerely,
Andria Arendze
