Hello Foundation Families,

This week in Mathematics, we began our unit on Addition. We explored how two parts (such as 5 and 3) make a whole (together makes 8). Students used hands on materials such as counters to add two small collections together, and drew pictures to make addition stories. You can see an example of this on Seesaw. Next week, students will continue to learn and practise various addition strategies including counting on, Pairs to 10 and drawing a visual representation.

Throughout Phonics and Literacy sessions, we have continued to recall some of the Magic 100 words. These are the 100 most common words in English and make up half of all the words in reading and writing. Many of these words are decodable, such as 'at' or 'and', however some of these words are sight words, including 'was' and 'said' and need continued repetition to automatically read. The Magic 100 words are great to practise at home to help your child with their reading and writing.

Kind Regards,

Tegan, Emma and Ash
