Dear Parents/ Guardians and Students of Westall
Middle School Buzz: A Term of Discovery and Direction
The months of May and June are among the most exciting and action-packed in Middle School. From excursions to major events, students are immersed in enriching experiences that extend well beyond the classroom. Highlights include interschool sport competitions, eye-opening visits to the Holocaust Museum and Shrine of Remembrance, as well as the engaging and thoughtful Middle School Wellbeing Day—all of which contribute to building community, empathy, and personal development.
However, it's the focus on career education that truly shapes the term’s direction and purpose for many students, particularly those in Year 9 & 10. As we look ahead to course counselling in Term 3, this time of year plays a critical role in helping students reflect on their future aspirations and take their first real steps toward shaping them.
Three key events—Westall Careers Expo, Future You and Work Experience Week—offer students the chance to explore potential career paths, understand workplace expectations, and develop clarity around their own strengths and interests. Whether spending time in a hands-on industry setting or engaging in future-focused workshops, students gain valuable insights into the skills and knowledge they’ll need for success in the modern world of work.
These experiences are not only eye-opening but also deeply empowering. They enable students to make more informed decisions when it comes to subject selection, aligning their choices with personal passions and long-term goals. The benefits of early career education are immense—it builds confidence, promotes engagement, and equips students with the tools to take ownership of their learning journey.
As we move through this dynamic term, we encourage families to stay connected with their children about these experiences. The conversations happening now can have a lasting impact on the pathways students choose in the years to come.
Student of the Week is a valued part of our Year 9 and 10 assemblies, designed to recognise and celebrate the efforts, achievements, and positive contributions of our students. Whether it's showing leadership in the classroom, demonstrating kindness to others, achieving a personal best, or showing resilience in the face of challenges, this award highlights the many ways students can make a difference in our school community. By acknowledging these moments in a public setting, we not only boost the confidence and motivation of the individual student but also promote a culture of respect, encouragement, and high expectations across the Middle School.

A reminder that with the temperatures dropping and the cold starts to the morning now upon us, we are always looking to add those extra layers of clothing to stay warm on our way to work or school. So, I thought this was a timely reminder to students and their families that they should have transitioned to our full winter uniform by now. For those that need to purchase additional items of uniform please click on the link https://www.psw.com.au/schools/westall-secondary-college.html?_=1715728823189 to place your order.
If you need support with regards to uniform, please don’t hesitate to contact the relevant sub-school.
