MUSIC

Last Friday all year 4 attended the Melbourne Symphony Orchestra WIZARDY SCHOOL performance.

We enjoyed the music of :

John Williams Harry Potter: Hedwig’s Theme Saint-Saëns Danse macabre Stravinsky The Firebird Suite

We were allocated the front 5 rows of the stalls and the students were thrilled with our A Reserve seats! (See photos attached!)

MSO Student reflections

I was sitting near the front and I could see the string family. I could also see how much they had to work as a team to make it sound amazing!

I liked how the violinist faked dying and everyone had to play to revive him. We heard him playing solo mostly when he revived. I also liked the starting Harry Potter music.

I like that the theatre was underground and that we were so close to the orchestra.

We enjoyed listening to the beautiful music and looking up at the lights. We liked that we were so close to the instruments.

LOTE

In Year 3 and 4 this term we started our new unit of work - cultural study. We focused on Blue and White Chinese Porcelain to learn its artistic style and the history behind it. In the classroom we studied how the style had started from a unique material - cobalt. We learnt how Chinese people developed this technique and produced the porcelain for hundreds of years in a town called Jingde Zhen.

We studied the stories on some porcelain pieces that you would find in museums. We practised retelling the story to each other. The students then had a fantastic opportunity to paint their own Blue and White piece at All Fired Up on Hampton Street. We thank Maki from All Fired Up for their great instruction and amazing experience.
