Psychiatrist

To become a psychiatrist, you need to first complete a medical degree.

 

  1. Medical Degree

    Complete an accredited medical degree, such as a Bachelor of Medical Studies/Doctor of Medicine this takes 4-6 years.

  2. General Medical Training

    After graduation of Doctor of Medicine you need to complete hospital training which usally takes 1-2 years.

  3. Specialist Training in Psychiatry

    Enrol in and complete a specialist training program in psychiatry. This usually takes 5 years or more.

  4. Registration

    Once you have completed the necessary training, you must register with the relevant medical board in Australia.
