Writing

Our Foundation students have been working hard on writing simple decodable sentences during their daily InitaLit lessons. They are learning to use capital letters at the beginning of a sentence, finger spaces between words and full stops at the end. It’s wonderful to see their confidence growing as they practise these important writing skills. We are so proud of their fantastic efforts – well done, Foundation!

Inquiry

This term in Inquiry, our Foundation students have been learning all about how to take care of the Earth. Through engaging discussions and hands-on activities, they explored the importance of reducing waste, reusing materials and recycling properly.

One of the highlights of last week was a fun and interactive rubbish-sorting activity. Students carefully sorted items into the correct bins—rubbish and recycling - learning how everyday choices can make a big difference.

We’re so proud of our young environmental champions as they begin to understand their role in protecting the Earth for future generations!

Years 1 and 2

Mrs Sherman's Farewell

Mrs Sherman has had her final day at St Augustine’s College before taking maternity leave to welcome the newest addition to her family. The Year 2 students farewelled Mrs Sherman with a special party and presented her with a book they created, offering their very own baby advice. We will miss Mrs Sherman very much and wish her all the very best for her next chapter.

Literacy time

Our Years 1 and 2 students have been diving into literacy with enthusiasm and energy! They’ve been building their reading fluency and comprehension skills through engaging activities like Readers Theatre & Story Book time, where they’ve brought stories to life with expression and teamwork. By asking thoughtful questions before, during and after reading, they’re deepening their understanding and becoming confident, curious readers.

Importance of reading

This is a reminder to encourage families to set aside dedicated time each day for reading. Whether it’s reading aloud together, listening to audiobooks or allowing children to explore books of their own choosing, every moment spent reading at home makes a meaningful impact.

Years 3 and 4

Last Thursday, the Years 3 and 4 students participated in the Waranga Winter Sports Day at Kyabram P-12 College. It was a great opportunity to meet new people and enjoy a variety of different sports. Thank you to the staff who helped organise the day and congratulations to all of the St Augustine’s students who represented our school so wonderfully.

As part of The Resilience Program, students designed and created their own gratitude-themed board game. They included reflective questions and statements to help them identify things that they are grateful for and how they can show gratitude to others.

The Year 4 students are currently exploring the unique novel, The Arrival, by Shaun Tan. This story of a migrant is told through a series of wordless images. We listened to the story, My Two Blankets to help us understand how it would feel to move to a different country and the journey of feeling like you belong. The students created a ‘blanket’ that depicted items and memories that the migrant may have woven into his blanket to help him adjust to his new environment.
