Performing Arts

Hi Everyone!

Each year level is wrapping up their units of inquiry this week and ending the term with some fun Performing Arts activities. Here’s what we’ve been up to…

Foundation

Foundation students have explored their five senses in the linked unit of inquiry ‘Senses help us explore the world’. Over the last few weeks, students have tuned in to their sense of hearing through playing different instruments and dancing to music that expresses different feelings. They have also explored their sense of touch, taste and smell through different performing arts activities, such as freeze frames, dance, singing and exploring props and costumes.

Year One and Two

During the past few weeks, Year One and Two students learnt about rhythm circles,  musical notes and composed their own percussion piece of music in small groups.  Students also wrote their own rhythm patterns, which incorporated quarter (crotchets) and eighth (quavers) notes. Each class will complete the term with a whole class rhythm circle in which students get to play four different instruments.

Year Three and Four

During the past few weeks Year Three and Four students created and performed movement stories about a famous fairytale such as Jack and the Beanstalk or Little Red Riding Hood. They focused on using facial expression, body language and dance actions to express the characters and dramatic moments in the story. They have also completed a peer assessment on each other’s performances. They are now creating their own movement stories or a rap based on a topic of their choice. We can’t wait to see the final products!

Year Five and Six

Year Five and Six students have almost completed their dance video clips! All groups have finished filming around the school and have started the editing process on CapCut. The video clips are due next week, where we will showcase them all as a class group. Excited to see the edited pieces!

It’s been such a wonderful term teaching these creative students and watching their confidence and enjoyment of the performing arts blossom! Next term, these classes move to Visual Arts with Mrs Myszka and her classes will come to us. We can’t wait to teach this fun curriculum to them too!
