Dear Families,
As Term 2 comes to a close, we want to celebrate the many wonderful experiences and achievements of our Year 6 students. It’s been a busy, engaging term filled with learning, creativity and community spirit!
To support the Society of St Vincent de Paul, students eagerly donned their pyjamas for a special fundraiser day. It was fantastic to see their enthusiasm for helping others, and they should feel proud of the contribution they’ve made to this important cause.
We also celebrated St Thomas’ Feast Day with a special pilgrimage journey around St Peter’s. Students paused at key sites to reflect and deepening their understanding of our faith. The day ended with a lively and entertaining performance by Drew Lane, making it truly memorable.
Religious Education Focus:
In Religious Education, students explored the life of St Thomas, learning why he is our patron saint and celebrating his legacy. They created thoughtful St Thomas Passports to record their learning and reflections.
English Focus:
Reading:
We concluded our picture book Country Town. Through rich discussions, students gained a deeper understanding of how Australian towns have changed over time—from First Nations stewardship to the impact of British settlers and the contributions of migrants.
Writing:
In writing, students completed their historical narrative pieces. They worked hard to bring the past to life with vivid descriptions, historical details, and engaging characters from the perspective of early settlers, convicts or First Nations people.
Mathematics Focus:
In Maths , students continued their work with fractions. One highlight was using coloured teddies, assigning fraction values to each colour, and then adding their totals. Students explained to their partners why their total was larger or smaller, using fraction walls and clear mathematical reasoning. They also tackled real-world word problems that challenged them to add and subtract fractions with unlike denominators.
Integrated Studies Focus:
This week, students proudly presented their Inquiry Projects to the Year 4 students. They explained their research clearly, used visuals and models, and answered questions thoughtfully. It was wonderful to see their leadership and communication skills shine as they taught the younger students about their chosen topics.
Auslan Learning Focus
In Auslan, students completed their mid-unit assessments, demonstrating their ability to sign key subjects, time, and weather phrases. Their growing confidence and fluency in Auslan have been fantastic to see.
We are so proud of how hard Year 6 have worked this term and the way they have lived our school values of respect, responsibility, and compassion.
We wish all families a wonderful, restful holiday break. Thank you for your continued support. We look forward to seeing everyone back, refreshed and ready for Term 3!
Kind regards,
The Year 6 Team
