Excursion to Mont de Lancey

On the day of the excursion, students need to pack their lunch and drink bottles into a small back pack. They do not need to bring their reader folders or school bags. Students also aren't dressed in school uniform - please see the poster below for costume ideas.

The bus will be leaving at 8.45am so we ask students to be at school by 8.25 as we will call students into the classroom at 8.30am to do the roll and make sure we are ready for our excursion! If students arrive late, they will miss the bus and excursion and remain at school with the other grade 2 classes.

Reminder:

2KL and 2BM - Monday

2JH and 2CC - Tuesday

As part of this excursion, we ask for students and parent helpers to be dressed up in old fashioned clothing! It is not necessary for children to purchase clothes – just be creative with existing wardrobes (i.e., rolled up jeans, checked shirts, caps and dresses).

Grade 5 Market Day

Students are invited to attend the Grade 5 Market Day. If you would like your child to buy something on the day, please supply them with money (maximum $20) in a labelled zip lock bag (student's name and class) and a small shopping/tote bag to carry their goodies in.

Pease keep in mind that your child will be with many different teachers on this day as the Grade 2 teachers will be participating in Planning Day. It will be helpful if you could assist your child with keeping their money zipped up safely in their school bags and discuss with them also how much money they have.

What’s On in the Classroom?

Literacy

In Writing, we have been becoming Editing Detectives! We are looking closely at sentences and fixing up spelling errors, missing punctuation or capital letters, checking if it makes sense and, improving our word choices.

Mathematics

In the classroom, we are now focusing on Place Value and Fractions. We are focusing on three digit numbers – what they look like in place value blocks, correctly saying the number in words and renaming numbers using our place value knowledge. We are also learning about halves, quarters, thirds and eighths and applying this knowledge to help break up and share shapes, groups of objects (e.g. blocks) or numbers.

Here is some of the amazing maths we have been doing over the past fortnight (patterns, calendars, place value).

Inquiry

We are continuing to explore how things have changed over the past 100 years. We have looked at the history of VPS and how our school has grown and changed and thought about how it might change in the future!

In Science, we are continuing to look at and talk about the weather and seasons.

Here, 2BM have been recording the weather each morning as they arrive at school.

Upcoming Incursion

On Wednesday 2nd July, we have a History Incursion! The payment and consent form are now available on Compass.
