Messages from the Principal

Hello NPS families.
As always, thank you for taking time out and reading our newsletter. :)
Kicking Off Our New Breakfast Club!
As previously mentioned, I am thrilled to announce the launch of our Breakfast Club, starting next week, on Friday 27th June starting at 8:30am! We know how important a good start to the day is, and this initiative aims to provide a nutritious beginning for our students. Students will be able to enjoy a selection of cereal, toast, and fresh fruit. We believe this will be a fantastic way to support our students' learning and well-being. More details will be sent home next week. Thank you again to all families who are supporting us by giving their time to help out.
Attitudes to School Survey: Your Feedback Matters
Recently, our students in years 4-6 completed the DETs Attitudes to School Survey, and I want to thank them for their honest and thoughtful responses. The preliminary data we have received has provided us with some great results, highlighting areas where our students feel positive and engaged. It has also indicated, as surveys do, some areas for us to work on and towards. We are carefully reviewing all the feedback to ensure we continue to provide the best possible learning environment for every child. We look forward to sharing more about our improvement plans in the coming weeks along with some of the data.
Celebrating Sporting Success!
A huge congratulations to those students who recently participated in the Divsional Cross Country event! Their effort and determination was great and they all should be very proud for making it that far! I get tired just thinking about it! I also want to give a massive shout-out to our netball and soccer teams for their fantastic performance in their recent matches this week.
Enhancing Our School Grounds
I am excited to share some upcoming projects aimed at improving our school's grounds and aethetics and to ensure a safe and engaging environment for our students. We'll be updating our playground, which will include 3 new slides for even more fun! Our poor old playground will also be getting a makeover with a new paint and timber installations which are MUCH overdue!
On our socials this week we shared that our 'Ready-To-Learn-Room' recieved it's first major upgrade by having a wonderful mural installed! This is the first major step in having that space transformed in to a space where our students can reset when needed.
In terms of safety and security, we'll be removing our existing picket fence along the front of Aberdeen St and extending the black fencing to create a more secure perimeter.
Unfortunately, due to some unsavoury and unacceptable behaviour, from a small minority of our school community, I will be reinstating the gates on our staff car parks to better limit traffic entering and exiting these areas, further enhancing safety. This will come in to effect from term 3. I appreciate your patience as these works are carried out.
Building Fund Dontations
As the end of the financial year is rapidly approaching, I would like to remind families of our School's Building Fund, donations made to this fund are tax deductible.
Donations to this fund are always appreciated and can be made at any time throughout the school year. These funds are managed separately to our general school account and are solely directed towards improving and maintaining the school's buildings and facilities.
If you would like to make a tax deductible donation to the Newtown Primary School Building Fund, please contact the office or email newtown.ps@education.vic.gov.au
FINALLY... Important News Regarding Our Patch OSHC
It is with sadness and disappointment that we inform you that Our Patch, our current Outside School Hours Care (OSHC) provider, will be ceasing their service towards the end of Term 3 this year.
This news is certainly challenging, and I understand the impact this will have on many of our families. Please be assured that our School Council is already working closely with the Department of Education (DE) to find an alternative, high-quality OSHC program to support our families as soon as possible. I will keep you updated on our progress and any new developments.
As always, thank you for your continued partnership and support. If you have any questions about the information shared today, please don't hesitate to contact the school office.
Thank you and have a great weekend!
