It's National Diabetes Week 13 to 19 July 2025
Diabetes doesn’t discriminate, and approximately 1.5 million Australians are living with diabetes.
Diabetes can occur at any stage from Childhood to the Elderly, and raising awareness can help those living with Diabetes.
Types of Diabetes:
Type 1 is referred to as juvenile diabetes. It is more common in young adolescents and is considered to be an autoimmune disease. This occurs when the pancreas creates little or no insulin.
Type 2 occurs when the body is making less insulin than is needed, and whilst this can be affected by genetics, it is closely related to diet and obesity.
Gestational diabetes occurs in pregnant women due to hormone changes. This can have significant effects on both mum and baby but can usually be managed through diet and exercise.
