From the Principal

When we think of ‘pilgrimage’, long journeys to sacred sites might come to mind, but in the Ignatian spiritual tradition, pilgrimage is not only about where we go, but also how and why we journey. An Ignatian pilgrimage is about interior transformation as much as external movement.
Our founder, St Ignatius of Loyola, understood this deeply. After his profound conversion, St Ignatius set off on a pilgrimage from his home in Loyola to the shrine of Our Lady of Montserrat, and eventually to Jerusalem. His journey was very much about surrendering control, letting go of personal ambition and learning to walk with God.
Ignatius learnt that the pilgrimage road becomes formative with the inevitable uncertainties, detours and encounters becoming a part of better understanding of recognising God in all things.
I am particularly thankful to the staff who so generously devote so much of their own time to ensuring the Pilgrimage experience for our Year 11 students is so impactful. In particular, I extend my thanks to Janeen Murphy for her leadership of our Pilgrimage program and to Erin Basile, Jess Pillera, Luke Bostleman and Xavier Mitchell for accompanying our students both in the extensive lead up and during their travels.
It is with this in mind that we wish our Year 11 student Pilgrims well as they journey to Far North Queensland on Sunday. We look forward to their return and hearing all about their adventures in Term 3, ever mindful of how transformative the experience will inevitably be.
