Principal's Report

Term 2 draws to a close

Our Year 10 students conclude their week of work experience at a myriad of workplaces.  It has been pleasing to hear very positive feedback about, and from, our students relating to their work placements.

I thank all Year 10 students and their parents and carers for ensuring that all are engaged with this opportunity: with a special thanks to Mrs Tanya Molloy, our careers and pathways coordinator, for her coordination of this valuable experience, and the teachers who visited the students at their workplaces.  I also thank the employers for providing this opportunity for our students.

A few weeks ago, students across several levels competed in the Da Vinci Decathlon where they were able to display very strong skills placing well ahead of many revered private schools.

Congratulations to Anmol Paudel and Juan

Maceda from Year 7, Russell Amado, Olrick De La Cruz, and Sahib Singh from Year 8, Rayd Rachman, Jordan Tram, Ethan Vi, Lily James, and Khushdip Kaur from year 9, and Sammi Willems, Abigail Tan, Ryash Prasad, Violet Maceda, Adam Du and Lydia Qiao from Year 10. You should be proud of your strong achievement and great teamwork amidst formidable competition.

Whilst acknowledging students, I’d like to wish Harper Bennet, Laura Woodhouse, Kyle Winters, Will Duncan, and Lily James all the best as they head off for 8 weeks at The School for Student Leadership from the commencement of term 3.

They were selected for limited places form a pool of very capable applicants. During their placement, the team will develop a community project and strategies to implement their plan upon their return.

It was pleasing to see that all students undertaking the General Achievement Task (GAT) that was held a few weeks ago approached the task with their best effort. I’d also like to acknowledge the respect that all students showed for the community during the exam period.

Preliminary NAPLAN and Student Attitudes to School data has shown significant growth for many students and improving attitudes across almost all areas, some by as much as 35%.

The college captains will work with teachers and focus groups of students during term 3 as we work to continually improve the learning and connectedness of all students.

The first few weeks of term 3 will be very busy with the semester one celebration assembly to be held on the first Thursday back (24 July), followed by athletics carnival on the Tuesday 5 August and VCE information evening on the 6 August.

One to one course counselling with students and their parents or carers will commence on the Monday 11 August with VCE course submissions to be completed by Friday 15 August.

A Year 8 and 9 information evening will be held on the Wednesday 20 August, where students will be able to select from broadened elective choices.

On the first Tuesday of term 3 (22 July), two Scoresby secondary College teams will compete in the Toyota World Hydrogen Challenge where they will be vying to go one step further than last year and make the world championships to be held in Germany.

We wish the students all the best as they work towards achieving their goal.

I hope that all our students, staff and their families have a safe and enjoyable holiday break.
