Health and Physical Education (PE) Update

What a semester it has been in the Health and PE Department.

We have been proud of the way students have continued to engage in an active and enthusiastic way in all of our classes.

We have also been thrilled to see the large number of students who use our facilities and equipment at recesses and lunchtimes.

Students in Year 7 through to Year 10 have spent much of term 2 completing SEPEP units. SEPEP stands for Sport Education in Physical Education Program, and this is a curriculum model where students learn the skills, strategies and rules of a sport while also taking on real life roles like coaching, refereeing, captaining and organizing.

Year 7 students enjoyed this structure in an extended volleyball unit, Year 8 students in an extended badminton unit and Year 9 students in a brilliant extended netball unit.

It has been a joy to see our students take on these opportunities and responsibilities.

The Year 9 netball unit has been so popular and successful that students willingly give up their spare time to practice their skills and strategies. Year 9 students have even organised their own interform competition as an end of semester celebration event.

Our attention now turns to preparing our students to compete skilfully at the upcoming Athletics Sports. The cold winter days have not stopped us, as students develop new skills in events like high jump, shot put, sprinting and javelin.

Once again, the willingness of students to also use our facilities and equipment to practice athletics events in their own time has been a joy to see.

Stay active, and we look forward to another productive and positive term after our holiday break.
