5/6 AG

Literacy

We started our year off with some letter writing which gave us a good understanding of where the students are with their writing capabilities. We have moved on this week to planning our writing pieces and helping the students get their best ideas out of their heads.

We also started to read our class novel 'Wonder.' This is a fantastic book and links in to our whole school focus of 'Respect.' The students have had some time where they listen to the book being read to them, they read it to themself, they discuss the book's themes and they complete questions based on the book.

We look forward to delving deeper into this novel.

Maths

We finished off our week with learning about Mean, Median, Mode and Range. We collected data, created some graphs and were able to use the data to find these forms of information.

We have now begun our new unit on Multiplication. We have started off with the Area model where we are learning to solve bigger problems without using an Algorithm. We have also been playing some games to help us with our mental multiplication strategies.

Prep Buddy Time

The year 6s have been spending some time with their Prep buddies on the playground but also during a lunch eating time. It was so lovely to see the year 6s making conversation and helping their buddies settle in.

Kinnect to Dance

We started our Kinnect to Dance sessions last week by learning the dance moves to a whole song!! It was very impressive to see what could be done in a 45 minute session.

Wellbeing Day

Last Wednesday we had a whole school Wellbeing/Assessment Day. This allowed the teachers to individually spend time with each child on some of their assessments, while they participated in a range of fun activities throughout the day. These activities involved, Sports, STEM, Art and Wellbeing.

Labyrinth walk with Mr Ange

The students thoroughly enjoyed learning about the Labyrinth with Mr Ange and also created a finger labyrinth to use as a mindfulness tool!
