Prep
Welcome to Prep M! Seeing the new Prep students arrive at St Francis Xavier Primary School on Tuesday morning was so exciting. It didn't take the students long to shake off their worries and nerves! Thank you, parents, for supporting your child with this smooth transition to school. I have enjoyed getting to know the Prep students this week. On the playground, the Preps have been exploring and discovering the places to play, climb, slide, dig, build and connect with friends, siblings or cousins. They have settled well into the classroom routine and, at times, have shown persistence and resilience when faced with a challenge. It is hard to believe that the first week of school is almost complete.
This week, we discussed our classroom agreement and the expectations of the students to make our class a safe and happy environment. You might hear your child referring to red and green brain choices at home. Each student was given a card depicting a behaviour. The student and class had to determine if the behaviour was green/positive or red/inappropriate and then place the card on the correct colour side of the classroom agreement.
In Maths, we have been counting forwards and backwards from 1 to 10. The Preps built number towers, counted small handfuls of objects, touched or moved each counter, and then stated the quantity of the collection. They also drew the people in their family and wrote the corresponding numeral; they did the same for their pets and their favourite number and age.
A quick reminder that the following four Wednesdays are Prep assessment days, and students stay at home and only attend school for their assessment session. Please check the date and time of your child's session.
