Learning and Teaching

From Mrs Hodgetts
The overarching theme for 2024 is 'Be Ready'. Each of the classes have created their class display and more importantly unpacking this theme during Inquiry lessons this term. There are numerous references about being ready in the Bible, including Matthew 24:44, which reads: So you also must be ready, because the Son of Man will come at an hour when you do not expect him.
How does this translate to a unit of learning?
One of my favourite things to teach is to show students how scripture can be related to their everyday life. How is it relevant to children in 2024? Using this passage as a stimulus, the students will learn skills and strategies to deal with situations both expected or unexpected. For example, how to 'be ready' and prepared for learning, such as maintain an organising working space. They will also learn strategies they can apply when faced with an unexpected situation or challenge, such as problem solving skills and self-regulation.
It is imperative that this learning does not stay contained to the first few weeks of school. The aim is to continue to develop these skills so that they are applied not only through their school life but well into adulthood.
