Spotlight on graduate Asma Batool

One of our graduating Year 12 students, Asma Batool, is looking to complete a double degree in Business and Information Technology at Monash University. She is currently waiting in anticipation for her offer (due to be released on Thursday 21st December).

Asma moved to Australia in 2019 with her mother and siblings from Pakistan, reuniting with her father who they had not seen for seven years (while he set up life for them in Australia).

Not being able to speak English, Asma and her siblings initially attended the Noble Park Language School prior to coming to Pakenham Secondary College (in Year 10). Asma didn’t know anyone at school, apart from her siblings, but with her warm personality, she quickly made friends, even in the midst of Covid-19. According to Asma it was initially hard to learn, “especially subjects such as Humanities and Science”, but she was given help from her teachers and peers and it “became easier to learn the concepts”.

Over her three years at Pakenham Secondary College, Asma has been a dedicated student. She is extremely grateful that her teachers took the time to ensure she understood all of the concepts. Asma was awarded the Attitude and Effort VCE Award for Biology.

Asma is fascinated that there are a lot of students from different backgrounds at Pakenham Secondary College. She has friends who come from all around the world. Four of her close friends originally came from Afghanistan, Myanmar, Ethiopia and South Sudan. She has found it quite interesting to listen to how they used to live.

We wish Asma all the best for her future and look forward to hearing from her soon.
