Congratulations to our new Sustainability Leaders! Isabelle C (5/6M) and Layla H (5/6A). Both girls presented some great ideas in their applications and we are excited to see the amazing work they are going to do this year!

Over the next few weeks, each class will nominate their Wildlife Warrior representative. These will be announced at an upcoming assembly so stay tuned!

Rubbish and Keeping Kalinda Clean…

We are so lucky to have spacious school grounds with lots of areas to play and learn. With this, however, comes lots of opportunities for rubbish to sneak its way between rocks, inside bushes and around the play areas. 

This year, we are focussing on limiting the amount of rubbish we are bringing into the yard. We will do this by leaving our lunchboxes inside classrooms and only bringing out food that has no wrapping. 

Families can help us with this by including minimal wrapping in lunchboxes. When wrappers are taken off at home they are more likely to make it into a bin than if they are brought to school!

Each Friday at 1:55 we will have a whole school rubbish pick-up time. We will have music playing over the speakers to remind us that it is time to stop playing and start picking up. I wonder who will find the most rubbish?

Energy Savers…

This year we are also focussing on reducing our energy usage. Students in each class will act as ‘Energy Monitors’ to ensure that lights, fans, air conditioners etc. are switched off every time we leave the classroom. We will be able to track our energy usage across the year and report back on our progress!

This is a great opportunity for families to change habits at home as well. Remember to turn off lights, heating/cooling and appliances when they’re not being used.

Thank you to Sze, Eden and Liam for helping us out with some watering over the holidays. Although it was a wet and rainy summer, our baby gums still required some extra love. Thank you for your dedication to this!
