Italian Term 1

Ciao! Mi chiamo Signora Laura Saladino ed io sono la maestra d’italiano per le classe Prep, 1 , 5 & 6 per 2024.

Hello! My name is Mrs Saladino and I am the Italian Teacher for the classes, Prep, 1, 5 and 6 for 2024.

I welcome new parents to the school, and for those who are unsure who I am, you can find me in the Italian room on Fridays.  I am passionate about teaching Italian to the students at St Josephs. What the Italian classroom looks and sounds like is a very fun, engaging and holistic learning environment where I ensure that every child has success.

Over the duration of the term, I immerse students in a weekly book and focus on key vocabulary words for the units learnt.

Prep students will be introduced to new words and how to specifically greet each other within the Italian space. We have already focussed on 3 new words:

  - buongiorno (good day)

  - ciao (hello)

  - Signora (how to call me)

Feel free to have a conversation with your child about these new words!

Over the course of Term 1, students will be learning about introductions and general classroom management and expectations. In the middle of February, Carnevale will be the main focus as to why, how and when Italians celebrate it. Focussing on Italian traditions is something that I feel is crucial when learning a language, too. Students will also see connections with Carnevale, as well as it linking it to the Easter celebrations.  I look forward to creating maschere (masks) with students later in the term. At the end of the term students will immerse themselves in the Pasqua (Easter)  in the last two weeks of term.
