Finance Subcommittee News

The Finance Subcommittee is chaired by the Treasurer and plays a key role in the operation of our School Council.  This group, made up of council members, meets ahead of each School Council meeting to ensure everything runs smoothly.  The subcommittee’s responsibilities include:

  • Reviewing the school’s financial position and processes
  • Reporting on financial matters to the School Council
  • Recommending decisions and actions relating to school finances

Each year, the Finance Subcommittee undertakes several important processes:

  • Participating in the development of the cash/program budget, with consideration of the Annual Implementation Plan (AIP)
  • Examining changes to the cash/program budget before recommending them for School Council approval
  • Reviewing end-of-month financial reports, seeking clarification where needed and recommending School Council acceptance
  • Making suggestions to the Fundraising Subcommittee on priorities
  • Contributing to annual reporting requirements

Again, we encourage any members of the school community interested in joining the Finance Subcommittee to get in touch — your insights and skills are always welcome!

Meet Your Treasurer

In this edition we’d also like to introduce our Treasurer, Darren Crump. Darren is an Aerospace Engineer and has spent the past 15 years as a stay-at-home dad, dedicating time to family and community.  He’s been actively involved in various community groups and brings a wealth of community experience to the role.

Our Treasurer loves a good spreadsheet and has served on the Finance Subcommittee for two years — with this being his second year as Treasurer and 4th year serving on School Council.  He has 2 children, both at GSC, in year 9 and year 12.

Darren strongly believes that public schools can offer everything our kids need to set them up for the future, and that the best outcomes happen when the school, parents/carers and students all work together.  He feels that being involved on School Council directly contributes to that partnership and indirectly supports his kids schooling by being more aware of how the school runs, and what it has to offer.

Feel free to get in touch with Darren by emailing: gisborne.sc@education.vic.gov.au Attn: School Council Treasurer.
