Relieving Principal's Message
Dear Parents, Carers, Students, and Staff,
I would like to inform you that I have been asked to continue in the role of Relieving Principal for a little while longer.
I am committed to supporting our school and community during this time and look forward to continuing to work with you and your children to ensure a positive and successful school year. Thank you for your ongoing support and understanding.
Community Languages Visit
Yesterday, senior members from the NSW Department of Education’s State Office Curriculum team visited Carlingford West to engage with the leaders and teachers of our Community Languages Program. They asked insightful questions about how the program is structured and were impressed with the high quality of teaching and learning taking place.
The visitors also had the opportunity to observe Year 6 Community Languages lessons, gaining firsthand experience of our students’ language learning in action. We are proud to highlight the excellence of our program and the dedication of our amazing staff.
Quality teaching and learning programs are made possible by the dedication and expertise of our teachers and leaders. We extend a special thank you to Ms Durney and Ms Vale for their outstanding leadership and unwavering commitment to the Community Languages Program and our teaching team. Their passion and guidance play a crucial role in creating a vibrant and successful learning environment for our students.
Behaviour Code for students
I wanted to remind our wonderful school community of the behavioural expectations Carlingford West and the NSW DET has for all students who attend public schools.
NSW public schools are committed to providing safe, supportive, and responsive learning environments for everyone across a range of settings. We teach and model the inclusive and safe behaviours we value in our students.
In NSW public schools, students are expected, to the best of their ability, to:
- show respect to other students, their teachers and school staff and community members
- follow school and class rules and follow the directions of their teachers
- strive for the highest standards in learning
- act in a courteous and respectful way that makes all members of the school community feel valued, included and supported
- resolve conflict respectfully, calmly and fairly
- meet the school’s agreed uniform policy or dress code
- attend school every day (unless legally excused)
- respect all property
- be safe and not be violent or bring weapons, illegal drugs, alcohol, vapes, e-cigarettes or tobacco into our schools
- not bully, harass, intimidate, or discriminate against anyone in our schools.
Schools act in response to serious breaches of the behaviour code.
Serious breaches of the Behaviour Code may be classified as a behaviour of concern.
A behaviour of concern is something someone does that might cause or has caused harm or danger to themselves or others. A formal caution tells a student that their behaviour caused or may cause harm or danger to themselves and other people or poses an unacceptable risk to teaching and learning. It is designed to let you and your child know that their behaviour needs to improve.
A formal caution is a letter in which your child’s behaviour of concern has been recorded. Your child will not be suspended at this time.
The purpose of the formal caution is to give you and your child time to understand the impact of their behaviour and agree on a support plan. The school will give you and your child the chance to meet with them to discuss the behaviour and to plan or review the supports your child needs.
The formal caution is in place for up to 50 school days. During this time, your child may be suspended if the behaviour happens again or for other behaviour/s of concern.

Turning Circle reminders
Staff will be reminding students of the behavioural expectations at the Carlingford West Public School turning circle each afternoon. The poster below will be displayed around the school in learning spaces.
One observation I have made during my time at Carlingford West is that in the morning, some students are being let out of the right-side passenger door leaving children vulnerable to moving cars within the circle. It is crucially important that ALL students either enter or exit a car from the curb side (left side) only.
For the safety of all students, we kindly ask that children do not stand at the back of the car in the turning circle while retrieving their school bag. Vehicles are parked very close to each other in this area, and there is a risk that a car may move forward unexpectedly, which could result in a student being trapped or injured.
To help us keep all children safe during pick-up and drop-off times, please remind your child to wait in designated areas away from the traffic. Thank you for your cooperation and understanding.
Community Snapshot survey
The 2026 Carlingford West Community Snapshot survey received 168 completed responses. We sincerely thank our parent community for taking the time to provide their valuable feedback. Over the coming weeks, school leadership will be conducting a thorough analysis of the data to ensure that all feedback is carefully reviewed and considered.

Road Safety - Safety around schools
Respecting Our Neighbours in School and at Home
We kindly remind all students to be respectful of neighbours both when travelling to and from school and in their own local communities. This means keeping noise levels down, disposing of litter responsibly, and being considerate of others' property and privacy.
Showing kindness and respect helps build positive relationships and a safe, welcoming environment for everyone.
