Student Voice

Student Safety, Wellbeing and Voice
Killester College is committed to promoting the safety, wellbeing and inclusion of all students in every aspect of College life. We strive to ensure that all students feel safe at school, know how to access support, and are confident that if they speak up, they will be listened to, supported, and that appropriate action will be taken.
The United Nations Convention on the Rights of the Child provides a universally agreed setof nonnegotiable standards that protect the rights of children. These human rights establish minimum entitlements and freedoms that must be respected by governments and institutions. They are founded on respect for the dignity and worth of every individual, regardless of race, colour, gender, language, religion, opinions, origins, wealth, birth status or ability, and therefore apply to every child – including all students at Killester College.
The Convention is guided by four core principles:
- Nondiscrimination
- The best interests of the child
- The right to life, survival and development
- Respect for the views of the child
These principles underpin standards across health care, education, and legal, civil and social services.
At Killester College, we believe that safe and respectful classroom environments create meaningful opportunities for students to ask questions, raise concerns, provide feedback, and express their views. This commitment to student voice is reflected in our daily practice and aligns with the Convention on the Rights of the Child. Our Learning Framework outlines clear guidelines for positive classroom relationships and behaviour and is further reinforced through our Student Code of Conduct.
In 2026, student voice has been strengthened through the inclusion of students on our Safeguarding Committee. This ensures students are informed about child safety initiatives within the College and are actively involved in sharing ideas and providing feedback to the wider student community.
