From the Principal

Dear Parents, Carers and Members of the St Augustine’s College Community,
As we move towards the final weeks of Term 1, it is worth pausing to reflect on what has been a full and rewarding start to the year. The energy across the College has been evident from the outset, with students embracing the many opportunities presented to them and staff working diligently to create engaging, purposeful learning environments.
Over the past few weeks, a number of significant events have taken place. Our Year 7 students returned from their Anglesea camp with plenty of stories to tell, having challenged themselves, built new friendships and settled more confidently into secondary school life. Our senior students recently participated in the Year 12 Retreat, which provided a valuable opportunity for reflection, connection and growth as they continue their final year. It was a meaningful experience and an important part of their journey as young adults.
Our various sports days have been a highlight over recent weeks, characterised by strong participation, positive spirit and genuine encouragement throughout. These occasions continue to showcase the importance of belonging and teamwork within our College, with students supporting one another and taking pride in their efforts.
Over the past fortnight, students in Years 3, 5, 7 and 9 have undertaken NAPLAN testing. Despite a challenging start (due to well-publicised, nation-wide technical issues beyond the school’s control), both students and staff responded exceptionally well. The calm, focused approach demonstrated throughout the assessment period is a credit to all involved and we thank families for their support and understanding.
In addition to this, we recently welcomed staff from Catholic Education Sandhurst Limited (CESL) who conducted a ‘pulse check’ across the College. The feedback was affirming, highlighting the consistent routines evident in classrooms, strong levels of student participation and engagement in learning and the deliberate use of strategies to check for understanding. This work aligns closely with our Magnify Framework and reinforces our ongoing focus on improving student outcomes through high-quality teaching practice.
This period of the term has coincided with the season of Lent, a significant time in our Catholic tradition. It is a time that invites reflection on prayer, sacrifice and service as we prepare for Easter. Across the College, students have engaged in experiences that promote compassion, generosity and an awareness of others, reinforcing the values that underpin our community.
There is still much to look forward to before the term concludes, with a number of events and learning opportunities ahead. We will also gather for our end of term assemblies for both the F–4 and 5–8 Communities and I warmly invite families to join us for these occasions as we celebrate the efforts and achievements of our students.
As we approach the Easter break, I thank our staff for their continued dedication, our students for the way they have approached their learning and our families for their ongoing support of the College. I hope the coming weeks and the Easter season, provide an opportunity for rest, renewal and time with loved ones.
Warm regards,
Tim Campbell
Principal
