News from our Classrooms - Year 4 Camp

Year 4 Adventure Camp to Sovereign Hill  5 & 6 March

On Thursday 5th and Friday 6th March, our Year 4 students had an unforgettable experience at Sovereign Hill! Over the two days, the children were kept busy with a wide range of activities that brought history to life.

The students tried their hand at gold panning, searching for tiny flecks of gold just like the miners of the 1850s. They explored the historic shops, discovering what life was like during the gold rush and learning about the everyday lives of people in that era. The children also learned about the important role of Chinese miners, gaining insight into their experiences and contributions.

A highlight of the trip was the mine tour, where students went underground and saw a replica of the Welcome Nugget, one of the largest gold nuggets ever found. They also had the incredible opportunity to watch gold being melted and made into a gold bullion worth $750,000, which amazed everyone! Georgiana was lucky enough to be chosen to hold this.

Students viewed children attending school, discovering how children learned and played in the 1850s. They also enjoyed old-fashioned bowling and played games that children from the 1850s would have played, working together and having lots of fun. Between activities, students enjoyed relaxing and spending time with friends in their cabins, building memories and friendships that will last long after the trip.

Overall, the Year 4 camp to Sovereign Hill was a wonderful mix of learning, adventure, and fun. The students returned full of stories to share, new knowledge to remember, and a sense of teamwork and excitement from an amazing two-day adventure. The Year Fours behaviour was excellent, and they were an absolute pleasure to take away on camp.
