VIP Morning Tea

The VIP morning tea was held in the staff room on the 25th of June 2024. It was lots of fun for the ‘Gotcha’ card recipients. We had all kinds of yummy snacks, which Denise kindly organised for us. Thank you, Denise!

At first a few Foundation students were a little bit shy, however they soon became more confident to have a chat and enjoy the social aspect of the morning. We were very lucky that Mat even read us some of his self-written stories. These made us laugh a lot! We were even honoured with a very special visit from David, our past principal. This was definitely a highlight of the morning tea. A big congratulations to all the VIP guests.

We look forward to ‘Catching’ more students demonstrating our vales next term.

The Resilience Project Gratitude

This week’s presentation from The Resilience Project focuses on Gratitude.

Gratitude is paying attention to the things that we have right now, and not worrying about what we don’t have. We practise this by noticing the positives that exist around us.

Research shows that practising gratitude rewires our brains to overcome the negativity bias (which can lead to anxiety and depression) and see the world for what we are thankful for. It is also shown to broaden thinking, and increase physical health through improved sleep and attitude to exercise.

There are many ways in which you can practise gratitude, including starting a gratitude journal. You can simply use a notebook to list three things that went well for you each day or use a more comprehensive Wellbeing Journal, like those created by The Resilience Project.

The program is based on research and experiences working with the families of children and teenagers with anxiety for more than 30 years. (Fear-Less Triple P is co-authored by clinical psychologist Vanessa Cobham, a specialist in the field of child anxiety, based at the University of Queensland, Australia.)

FEAR-LESS TRIPLE P SEMINAR

This is ideal if anxiety is only of mild concern or if you’d like to know more about the Fear-Less program. You go to the seminar with anywhere from 20 to more than a hundred parents. It can be a relief to know other families share your experiences. The seminar takes 2 hours, and you’ll get an overview of what anxiety is and what causes it, and a tip sheet with practical strategies you can try at home.
