Students Using Mobile Devices During The Night
It has come to our attention that some students are setting alarms on their mobile devices to wake them up during the night, so that they can continue gaming, talk to friends and go on social media. This has a number of concerning implications for them at school. It can cause many issues which are listed below:
- Behaviour problems and aggression
- Poor school performance
- Depression and moodiness
- Weight gain
- Stress and anxiety
- Lack of energy and alertness
- Weakened immunity
- High blood pressure, heart disease, stroke, irregular heartbeat, and diabetes
- Sleep terrors, nightmares, sleepwalking, and bedwetting
- Increased risk of suicide8
- Social issues with peers
We recommend that all mobile devices are removed from your child's bedroom prior to them going to sleep. This will help prevent them from accessing these items during the night, or checking in on social media accounts.
