Science Week

Karaoke to cryogenics - get set for Science Week

National Science Week starts on Monday, 12 August, and we certainly have a swag of interesting activities planned for staff and students alike - plus some fantastic prizes.

This year’s theme is "Species survival - more than just sustainability!" which links in well with our Term Three school theme of "Respect for the Environment". The Science Department will host a range of exciting events from Monday through to Friday. The prizes include gift cards, chocolate, speakers, books, art supplies and tickets, thanks to some legwork and generous city businesses.

Karaoke

Unleash your karaoke skills by practising Michael Jackson's "Earth Song". We will hold a House competition to see which House sings best during Thursday lunchtime. We need as many of you joining in as possible - here's a link you can use to practise at home.

After School Activity sign-up

Please send me a SEQTA direqt message with interest for the in-house Escape Room on Tuesday after school and threatened species incursion on Thursday after school. Both will last for about an hour and places are limited. If you already do an after school activity on these days, are not at camp and are able to join, I will let your after-school co-ordinator know that you will be involved in these activities for this week only.

Lunchtime Activities

On Monday lunchtime, help Ms Lane investigate the importance of Whale Snot,;Tuesday lunchtime help Mr Lim explore cryogenics and on Wednesday at lunchtime, help Mr Dempers experiment with DNA (and make models of DNA with lollies). Monday's and Tuesday's practicals will take place in Lab 1 and Wednesday's in 3.3.

Donations

Please consider a gold-coin donation to support a worthwhile charity linked to our Science Week theme. Each day from Monday to Thursday, we will be collecting as students arrive in the morning for PCG so please dig deep! We will announce the amount once it has all been collected and thank you so much in advance.

A huge thank you goes out to all the people that generously gifted some of the amazing prizes the students will winning.

Happy Science Week Everyone!
