Year 7 Science

Banksia cones were used by Victorian Aboriginal people to strain their drinking water. Our Year 7s considered whether banksia cones could assist in the filtration of water.  Plastic bottles were used as the main structure, with filler materials a design with options of banksia cones, cotton balls, sand, gravel and filter paper.

The project transformed cloudy water into clear, demonstrating the principles of water filtration and giving the Year 7s an appreciation of indigenous knowledge.
