Faith Development for Staff on PRAYER

On the first day of this term, the St Mary's school staff were involved in a day of both professional and personal growth using prayer as the basis of learning. Facilitated by Eloise Meyer (Learning Consultant in Religious Education) and Lisa Heffernan (CMI Team Discipleship Manager) from MACS, the teachers were immersed throughout the day in How we pray, What we pray and Why we pray As the day progressed, the teachers broadened their knowledge of ways to pray, especially with the children in the classrooms.

The learning intentions for the day were:

  • To explore the richness of prayer in the Catholic tradition, delving deeper into the importance of prayer in a Catholic school and the lives of believers
  • To expand staff ‘prayer tool box’ and experiences of prayer as a staff group
  • To consider prayer experiences in connection to classroom practices
  • To engage in personal contemplation and reflection on the importance of prayer in our lives.

We began and finished the day with a moment of prayer and reflection for Paul Hogan, our past principal. The teachers had created a candle surround using a chosen Psalm which was used in our final prayer.
